Frustrated (Cross posted)
Okay, I am getting completely overwhelmed and frustrated. (To the point that I am starting to wonder if it is really worth it…) I have started doing research for adoption number 2 and I feel like I am chasing my tail. I just am not finding any agencies.
So, here is what I want, any and all PM’s would be greatly appreciated! - African American or biracial child - Fees under 15k (This one is a biggie that knocks most out.) Would be willing to go slightly higher if it was all inclusive. - No requirements about religion - No requirements about tobacco use - A shorter wait (under one year average for AA / biracial.) I am starting to understand why some go back to my original agency even though they were bad. They meet all of my requirements, they just were not very nice to us…

Have you thought of going out in the world and doing your own adoption without an agency? Do your own advertising/networking, and pay for the homestudy, post-placement, legal and travel??

I have but I am terrified of scammers. Plus I think that would take longer than through an agency. We have told all of our family / friends so everyone we know can keep their eyes out for a potential situation. It's a thought, but kinda scary...

I PM'ed you. We had an agency do our homestudy, then we used a referral service to help match us.
We adopted a Biracial DD, AA dd & AA ds. Each one we waited to be matched in less than a couple of month. They were each well under 15,000. Everything you requested is easily done with this referral service!! GOOD LUCK! Deb

Our agency places AA/ biracial children very quickly because unfortunately there are few couples open to a transracial adoption. They just changed their name and became a non-profit agency, so fees are set and around 15K for an AA/ biracial adoption. I do not believe that includes the homestudy (I think around $1700) and the post placement visits (around $150).
I'll PM you the name and website.

Just a thought.. have you thought about 'registering' with an adoption attorney? That is the route we are going and feel VERY confident with this route. The attorney's we are registered with came recommended by our social worker, as well as by other adoptive parents. The one gets on average 2-7 Mom's each month.
The cost, total, is around $10-$14k.
