How many 'considerations' before match?
Hello.. this is my first post, as I am new to the world of 'domestic' adoption. I am just curious, of those of you who are matched, how many moms were you presented to before you were matched?
We have been officially waiting since end of January. Our profile letter, along with three other families, was presented to a Mom sometime last week. Thanks for any feedback you can give..

As far as I know, we matched with the first expectant mom that we were shown to. It was really quick, as you can see from my timeline. I don't think that's the norm though.

I have given our first agency over 25 profiles in the year that we were working with them. I know they used almost all of them. They prob have about 3 left... That said, I know I have been shown to about 30 bmoms.. 2 of which we were picked from (but had failed adoptions with those 2) and 2 near misses.. those are who I consider wanted to narrow down their search and we were one of 2 couples they wanted to talk to to make their decision final.
I know that our first agency would get back some profiles from the bmoms when they didnt choose you.. then they recycled them... I guess some people are luckier than others with getting picked first time around. AJ |

We matched with our first profile being shown. I would imagine that can be the norm and also quick. There just isn't a difinative answer. Every adoption is so diffierent yet so alike if that makes sense.

Our first time around, our profile was shown to at least 15 expecting mothers considering adoption. That time, we were the only waiting family she wanted to meet and we were matched. With our second time, we aren't sure but at least 10. And three more where we were asked if our file could be shown but we declined due to some of the unique circumstances of the situation. |

Wow, you all were very lucky.
I am not sure how often we were shown b/c our agy didn't tell us. Which was fine b/c that was just more to stress over. We did meet one emom but she chose another couple. The 2nd emom we met chose us but that ended in a failed match. The 3rd emom we met chose us to parent her baby. 3rd times a charm! :-)

We have no idea how many times we were shown. Our agency sent copies of profiles out to every pbmom that called. Even if they were just calling for inital chat / information. So, they said our profile was going out about once a week. And we were waiting for 4 months! That is A LOT of times. However, of these intial phone calls where info is sent out, very few actually call back...

With our first adoption, we were one of 2 families being considered for a baby boy already born. After a couple of weeks though the Birth Mom couldn't decide so the agency chose for her. They chose the other family because they had been waiting a week longer than us!
A couple weeks later we were presented again & our daughter was in our arms a few weeks later. Our second adoption was 2 years later. We matched right away. It ended in a failed match. A couple months later we tried again & again were matched right away. Our daughter was in our arms a couple days later. With our 3rd adoption, we were shown to a Birth Mom along with another family. She chose the other family, our family was too big for her she thought. A couple weeks later we matched again & our son was born a few weeks later. GOOD LUCK!!!!! Deb

We were picked the fourth time we were considered. We were shown once with our "primary" agency and three times with our "back-up" agency. We adopted our daughter through our "back-up" agency.
Good luck, I do hope that things align such that you only have to endure a very few "considerations." |
