OT-Weight loss support

I am trying to take care of some things before we adopt and one of those things is losing some weight. I lost about 45 pounds 3 years ago and I have gained 20 of it back. I really want to get back on track but I am having the hardest time. I was hoping that some of you would like to join my little support group. We can talk about things that we do to lose, food to try, exercises to do.

We can also give each other a shoulder to leave on.

What do you guys think? I am even willing to tell you my starting weight so I can quit denying that I need to lose. Currently I am at 157, my goal is 135.

Ah, you are very brave !!! I'll tell you that my goal weight is the same as yours, but I'm to embarrassed to reveal my starting weight.
I recently started the GI diet. I did this a few years ago just before my high school reunion. I lost 14 lbs in a month. Now, if I had only stuck with it!!!! This time though, I'm determined to get to my goal. I don't want to spend my days at the beach this summer trying to hide the rolls.

What timing!

Yay for this thread! I, too, want to get rid of my excess weight while waiting. I have read several books, and although my dr. recommended the low-carb approach, I am really finding that I think I would be more successful with the GI diet. I have tried it for the past three weeks, and was down 8 lbs! (got some of it back while on a business trip, though).

I won't tell you my starting weight, but my goal is 160. I have a ways to go, but with spring/summer approaching, exercise will be much easier, as I love to be outdoors!

Thanks for starting this thread, Hollygirl!

I need to join this as well. We got our dresses for my little sister's wedding this weekend and mine did not fit! We were able to get it zipped, but I could not breathe. They said they can let it out and it should fit me, but I fet like a cow. I asked if I could use the excuse that I just had a baby 8 months ago and my sisters said no.

I only want to lose 10-15 pounds. But I have no willpower. I was doing this exercise tape a few years ago. (Can't remember the name.) It was a set of 2 tapes. I liked it because it did a little of everything: stretching, carido, yoga, etc. You did not have time to get bored because it did a few mintes of each thing However, we moved, got a dog, started the adoption process, and had a child, so I quit... I don;t own a scale, so not sure what I lost on it, but I did it for 2 months and I could tell a difference in the wya my clothes fit. (That is another thing. My pants are too tight...)

So, my goal is to start next week getting up at 5am and doing this 30 minute tape every day. (If I am good, I will treat myself and take weekends off!)

So, I am in. Yell at me a lot. I need it.

And what is the GI diet? I would love to lose a few pounds by May 12th (sister's wedding) and that sounds like a good way to go!

I thought I'd pipe in here in case your intersted. Not sure if you all had seen the thread about a month ago about the Moms of Grace message board starting up. Anyway, they have a private forum section (all you've got to do if your registered is let an admin or the mod of the forum know and they'll add you, otherwise it just looks like nothing is there) and one of them is weight loss support. We'd love to have more people there. If you're interested, let me know and I'll PM you the link (not sure if I can just post it or not).

PLEASE count me in...I lost 23 lbs last year on WW and then gained it all back...uggggh. I started WW (CORE) program on Monday and so far so good (of course it's only TH!). I could really use a thread like this here. Although I really should lose about 40-45 lbs, I would settle for 25 again!!!

I'm in!

2 and a half years ago my weight was at an unhealthy 289 lbs. I started working very hard on changing things and because of that have lost a wonderful 105 lbs (gaining none of it back yet)! I haven't had the commitment or drive lately (past 6 mo-year) though so I'm hoping joining this group will kick me back into it! My goal weight is anywhere between 125 and 140 lbs.

Don't get me wrong I'm super happy with how I look now, and if I never lose anymore I'll still be happy, but let's face it who wouldn't want to be a smaller, healthier person for their kids or future kids.

Sunflower, you go, girl!!! How did you lose that initial weight -- I am really proud of you.

I think we may have talked before -- do you have Type II diabetes? (sorry I may be thinking of someone different) Are you on meds or have you been able to stop with the weight loss. One of the reasons I want to lose weight is to get my diabetes better controlled.

RE: Tapes. I have found that Denise Austin is sooo annoying and yet strangely motivating. I really lost weight doing her kickboxing tape. Any one recommend any other good ones (of course, my living room now contains a Dora Kitchen, a tea set, a drawing table! jeez!)>

Initially I started by working the Dr. Phil weight loss solution. Then because of the limited foods he had that I could eat (I'm not quite a vegetarian but I do not eat any red meats, pork, or fish) I had to adapt it for myself. Plus I started drinking nothing but water (now I am up to a minimum of a gallon of water a day). And I was horribly out of shape so I started walking with the walk away the pounds tapes. Originally I couldn't even do a mile, then I worked myself up (over many months) to being able to do the 3 mile tape.

I do have type II diabetes, unfortunately. I have been able to control it greatly by losing the weight, when I was first diagnosed I had only lost about 30 lbs and was put on 3 types of meds, now I'm on none (but that is because I don't get new insurance until April). I won't be able to tell you for certain about the meds thing until after I can get a complete workup done. I suspect I will still needs meds though since I no longer eat as proper as a diabetic should. Oh and yes we have talked before. I can tell you I haven't had any extreme highs (before I used to run even with the meds always over 200 but on occasions up to 450 and twice in the 600's! I seriously should have been dead). I used to get Y infections (I'm sure you can probably figure out what I mean by that) at least once a week due to the dramatic raises in my sugars, now I very seldom get them as long as I pay attention to a degree on what I eat.

I highly recomend the Walk Away the pounds tapes as they aren't just walking, you do some kicks, and knee whatevers, and whatevers. They are fun and keep you moving, but are very easy on your joints, and the likes. Don't be disappointed if you can't do a full mile right away, because she does make you work.

I have been on WW points program ( not attending the meetings in about a 2 years- but still following the new life style) for 3 years- I am still losing weight but I have lost and kept off over 75 lbs and I still eat like a pig- anything I want.
the reason I stopped going to the meetings was that I moved around alot and didn't have anyone to go with.

This will be a great thread for me...!!!

I want to lose about 30 maybe 40 more lbs.

My goal weight is about 160-170. Right now I am at 200.
I am 5'11" and have a large and muscular build * YUCKY FOR ME*

It must have been in the air today!

Just this morning it was all I could do to NOT go to the donut shop. Fritters were calling my name! I am a carb junkie. I can live on them, really, I have done it. So, I will join too. I want to feel better in my swimsuit this year.

Goal 130. Starting wt. 145.

Let's go!!

I had lost 60 pounds before I got married and then a month after the wedding my doctor took me off the pill because of my blood pressure. Well, little did I know that the pill was regulating my hormones enough that I was able to lose weight. So all that with the PCOS diagnosis (finally) and a year of infertility treatments, I've gained all my weight back. I've been on Fortamet since last June and that was supposed to help me start losing weight again, but so far nothing. BUT, I haven't really gained any in the last few months, so that's a first. Hopefully the scale will start moving in the opposite direction soon. I'm going to add to my walks by doing some workouts on my stability ball to see if I can't strengthen my core.
