What to wear, what to wear...
Okay, we finalize in a week and a half!!!!! Woo-Hoo!!!
Here is my dilemna, what do you wear to a finalization? I don't want to show up and look unkempt because we are so underdressed, but I also don't want to look show-offy becasue we are overdressed. (I know I am over analyzing...) What did you all wear? What did your kiddos wear? Thanks!!

Oh gosh. For me, this was such a "huge" day that I had DD dressed to the nines (a velvet topped dress with a taffeta bottom, etc.). I was a little more casual myself...dress pants and a sweater. Honestly, it is SUCH a great day that I could have worn a potato sack and not cared. So happy for you, Marci (btw, bring LOTS of kleenex!!!).

DH wore slacks and a button down shirt (can't remember if a tie??) I'll check the picture. I wore slacks and a casual/nice top and I bought Reid a cute little cotton overall/jumper outfit from Target, so he'd be terribly cute and comfortable. I'll try to remember to send you the pciture tonight. Don't stress it. You'll just want to be cute for the pictures cause you'll hve those FOREVER!!

What to wear
I wore dress pants with a nice sweater and heeled shoes. D wore dress pants, nice shirt, even though he's generally the suit and tie type. I always put all the attention on the kids, very dressy dresses for the girls, you know, classic smocked type, wool dress overalls with a white turtleneck for our son who was almost 2.
Have fun. No one cares what YOU wear. Everyone will be paying attention to your daughter!!

Go for business casual
Nice slacks or skirt and a nice blouse or sweater. Hubby in nice shirts and khakis. You will be fine.
I wore a silk blouse and summer slacks (it was June), and my hubby was in a nice shirts and khakis. My son was dressed in a really cute short romper in white with a sailboat design and white knee socks. Everyone at court admired him excessively! And he rode into the courtroom on his daddy's shoulders like the prince he is...LOL. Ah, the memories...the prince is now 3 inches taller than his dad at nearly six feet tall and 16! Robin |

Congratulations on finalizing!
My girls each wore a maroon velvet dress with matching bloomers. DH wore a jacket and tie. I wore a plain black dress and heels. It was a big day for us, so we dressed up as if we were going to church or a wedding. Have fun!!!!

You already know what A. wore, but for others' benefit:
(Ours was in January) - babe wore Navy pants and turtleneck with a cute sweater vest from the Gap. The little boy in front of us had the same type outfit on! I just wore a pants/jacket outfit that would be something I'd wear to work or church. Not a suit, but not overly casual. Cannot remember what hub wore - probably khakis or cords and a shirt and sweater vest.

My husband wore a suit, but he never gets to so he wanted to, I wore slacks and a blouse, and Kelcee had a brand new pink dress that she looked adorable in. You'll be fine. Have fun.

For DD, we appeared before a judge. I wore a dress, DH wore a suit and Bug wore a dress that was a gift from a dear friend. For DS, I was in my pajamas. The signed order was delivered by the mailman. Kinda anti-climactic for everyone but me and well, the mailman. He had never had anyone cry when he delivered a letter, he said "for a very long time". LOL! I guess you could pick something in the middle??? |

Hi Marci! Congrats on the BIG DAY! We were pretty business casual too! I do want to give you a heads up though. In Indy anyway, we weren't allowed to take cameras into the city-county building. I had to take it back to the car. I was so, so angry. We were able to take pictures when we finalized Brady's adoption almost 4 years ago, but with the new security measures, we couldn't for Izzie. They did allow cell phones with cameras on, but not "just" cameras.
So, you might check with your lawyer about where you are finalizing to see if it's okay. Have fun! Enjoy the day! Kim |

Funny, I should just cut and paste LoveAjax's because I also wore dress pants and a sweater and my dd wore a snazzy velvet/taffeta dress. For some reason we got dressed at my office, so I got to walk my daughter around all the cubes to show off her dress. I think my coworkers were actually more impressed that I wasn't in jeans!
The GAL wore a suit, the CW was in jeans. At first the security wouldn't let me take in a camera, but when I told them it was family court for an adoption they said it was okay. Congratulations on your upcoming big day! |

Howdy, I'm glad they let you take yours in. The security that was working in Indy the day of ours was very rude. Pretty much treated everyone coming through the metal detectors like criminals. I'm glad it worked for you!

Kim - we ran into the same thing with the camera (Indy also). The families scheduled before us were stopped and weren't allowed to take theirs in. I had ours in the diaper bag and was never questioned about it. We didn't even know it was an issue until we got to the waiting room. Another family before us had theirs in the diaper bag as well so they took pictures for the families that weren't allowed to bring theirs in. A friend of ours is an attorney and he recently told us that they are no longer allowed to have camera phones not sure if that crosses over to the general public.
Marci - you may want to call the court house and verify the policy. |
