"ADOPTION SCAMS" on Dr. Phil tomorrow

Hi Everyone,

I don't normally frequent this board, as I ultimately ended up adopting a child from Guatemala, and I kinda hung out at the Guat adoptive parents board. Mostly!

But I wanted to let you know about a 2 part show on Dr. Phil that airs TOMORROW AND FRIDAY. I was the victim of a cruel, horrendous adoption scam. Myself and 2 of the other victims took our story to a national level. The Dr. Phil show picked up the story, and ran with it. Now here we are, on TV!

You can see clips of the 2 shows on
Dr. Phil.com

Go to the weekly schedule, click on Thursday or Friday, and under the photo box, there is a small clicker that says "See the video"....click there. You can do this for both shows, both days. ALSO, there is a clicker on the top RIGHT corner of the drphil.com web page. This also gives you a little sneak peek of footage.

Don't miss this show! Get your Kleenex out and be ready for a rollercoaster ride. It was quite the experience.

It is our goal to STOP this criminal from ever doing this to another family, and to expose her for the cruel and devastating way she treated her victims. ALSO to locate other victims and build an even stronger case against her, legally!

Please PM me with any questions...

Jen

I sure hope they don't go thru the entire darn show calling the scamming scammer a "birthmother" - but I have a sneaking suspicion he/they will...they always do.

Nothing good has ever come of a Dr. Phil Adoption show...I can't imagine this one will be any different.

Just more 'media' capitalizing on the Adoption Community.

Hopefully Kelly Keiser-Mostrom puts some people in their places, including Dr. Phil.

wrong

Brandy,

You'll have to watch and see....but I think you will be wrong.

Because there IS GOOD coming out of this show.

ALREADY.

I was there, heavily involved. I wasn't in the audience. I was on the stage as a key guest.....and I can promise you that this ***** is going down. When you see what she did to people, and how good she was at it, I think everyone will be shocked. No one was capitalizing on anything or anyone. WE took this story to the media for the reasons I stated above. Sure, the ratings will be good. Why not? I hope they skyrocket, because that will mean MORE people will watch, more will know, more will tell their sister or neighbor or coworkers, and the rest of the victims of this evil witch can be found. A goal we have had all along.

BTW....I met and spent a good deal of time with Kelly Kiser-Mostrom. She's an awesome lady and she knows her stuff. If there was one problem with the show, it was that there is never going to be enough time to EDUCATE people the way we need to, on this subject. Kelly is a class act and could do a whole show by herself!!

Jen

I hope I am wrong - shows like that do a huge disservice to the adoption community.

Jen,

I'm really sorry that you went through what you did and I hope you know that so many people are thankful for you having the courage to share your story. I think it is great that you are getting it on national television. It will help others. Don't be turned off from sharing here from the previous posts. I am not a fan of Dr. Phill but will def. tune in and I'm sure you helped so many people. I'm glad you had a successful adoption with your daughter. I love her name by the way.

Peace,
K

thank you

Thank, you, K...
for your kind words!

It is those sorts of sentiments that have kept us all going and on toward the goal of stopping this woman in her tracks. She has been a master scammer for YEARS.

It hasn't been easy. None of us are starlet wanna-be's. We had to do this because there was no other way to get it out there on such a huge scale. We'll take the crap from whomever throws it at us, we are prepared for that.

It was ME who had a happy ending, becoming the Mommy of Addison Grace. The others, not so happy endings. YET. All things will change, in time.

If I hear them refer to the scammer as a birthmother, even once, I'll just turn it off.

Thank you!!

Jen,
I know it was probably so difficult to relive any of this! I appreciate any attention you bring to this light. I will tune in tomorrow.

Some people just don't 'get it' sometimes, and have to be ignored.

You Know

Glad you shared this with us.

On another note.
Sometimes if you don't have anything nice to say... or constructive for that matter.... it is better not to say anything at all. I would think moderators would know this in particular.

I wonder if you'd feel the same way if Dr. Phil referred to birthparents as 'Real Parents' - its just offensive - and it happens often, its not unreasonable for birthparents to find this offensive - as it seems to be commonplace among shows such as these.

Some people seem to think only THEY deserve to be respected in adoption...

ROFL!

Lordy folks - I wasn't being 'mean' - historically - these shows are the laughing stock of the Adoption Community!

I just want to urge people not to expect to much - and I will GLADLY eat crow if I am wrong...I just have no reason to expect that will be the case...

FWIW - Moderators are entitled to opinions as well.

IMO its very constructive for us all to hold the media accountable for the way they represent all members/aspects of the triad. If we aren't going to be critical of how we are represented then who will? It's evident from past representations that the media itself is not interesting in upholding thier responsibility...

I saw a commercial for that on tv today and I will definatly be watching it....especially now since I found out "addisons Mommy" will be one of the guests.

I'm sure they will address this person as the "birthmother" since...to these people she scammed she was indeed a possible birthmother. In most of the books I have ever read about adoption or any articles or ANYTHING other than on these forums....you always here of the woman "thinking about placing her child" as the birthmother (before she even indeed delivers the baby and places it for adoption). While it certianly is a NO NO to say such a thing on these boards.... In the normal every day world, it is a common way for people to understand what and whom your talking about.

I don't think them calling her a "birthmother" will do any harm to all the wonderful birthmothers out there.

What it does is expose the scammers that prey on hopeful adoptive parents and how they do what they do and get away with it. Well, it's time those scams stopped....in stopping them....it will help make a better name for ALL birthmothers. Because their will be more safegaurds put in place which means less risk and heartbreak for the families hoping to adopt.
