Well, I have to say I am quite proud of Kelcee today. She learned how to do somersaults (sp??) The first time she had a look of what was that??? Then she continued to do them and was having a blast. Wonder if I have another Mary Lou Retton on my hands.

So today we had breakfast with my brother that was visiting for a few days. In the parking lot (and mind you Kelcee does not go to others well) she runs up to him and gives him a huge kiss and hug. It just melted my heart.

Denise, she sounds like a true Nadia Comenici (she was my favorite).
Can I share my favorite "little girl" story today. My DD is now obsessed with the two step stool I bought her this weekend. She LOVES getting on it and just washing her hands and brushing her teeth under the faucet (seriously, for HOURS on end she could do this). Today I was leaving for work and my MIL was there. I said, "J, can you get off your stool and come give mama a kiss?" J: "NOOOOOO!" I said, "Well, you can get back ON your stool if you come OFF and give Mama a kiss...." She climbed down, ran over, gave me the biggest kiss ever and then proceeded to run and jump back on her stool. I told my MIL, there is no more baby left (sniff sniff), just a little girl! |

My oldest "little" girl is not so little anymore. She's twelve years old and fun and witty and smart. She never was a girly girl and I remember her sitting in our flower garden covered with dirt and the bugs she dug up.
She was four years old the first time I met her and it was on that day my heart opened up like a flower. When she first moved in she used to call me "New Mommy". She doesn't remember that, but I do. She doesn't notice me studying the curves of her face, the shape of her eyes and even the browness of her skin which reminds me caramel ice cream. She is becoming a strong independent young woman and no matter how big she gets she will always be my precious little girl. Kathy

I love hearing about everyone's little ones. Who has something else to add? Kelcee and I are going on a trip to Texas in a few weeks with my folks. So many people are waiting to ahhhhh all over her. She is going to get even more spoiled.

Little Girls
OK, I have 4 boys and 4 girls, 4 grown and 4 littles. I LOVE that at this time in my life I have the self-confidence and income to stay at home with my two little girls. I love that it's ME who can give them the self-confidence and pride in who they are to become whatever they want to be. I love doing their beautiful hair and pretty clothes and watching my 8 year old daughter slam the boys on a basketball court. I love watching my 23 year old daughter love life the way that I do and her grown up beauty. I love that my 28 year old daughter is the mother of 2 little girls herself and that she and her 23 year old sister are my best friends and that we go through life together, every single day, even though we no longer live close to each other. They respect and love me and I adore and love them. What a joy!! And I can go on the boy thread and tell you all about what's great about little boys too. How lucky can one woman get in life!!!!!!!!!

Jo, you ARE lucky. I am going to cry -- as much as I hate my little girl growing up, I can't wait to see the woman she becomes too!

Jos,
How lucky you are indeed! Kelcee will be our only child so I won't even get a glimmer of what boys can bring to my life. I am content with this precious one though!

Ok, so we've been telling our funny boy stories
On the raising a boy forum, so I thought I'd add a funny raising a girl story over here.
My 4 yo daughter is very interested in (skin) moles and breasts. SO a couple of weeks ago I was changing and she can in the room with me. I was putting on my bra and she said "What's that? I said my breast. She thinks for a second and says "You got two really big moles Mommy." I said no honey those aren't moles, those are part of my breasts, as I tried to keep from falling on the floor in hysterical laughter. Then last week as they were swimming in the pool she came to me and said, "Look Mommy, I have two little moles, just like yours." Again as I fought of hysterical laughter I explained they she didn't have moles either, that they were part of her breasts. Just wanted to share, hope everyone is having a good summer, Shelley |

Shelley,
Thanks for sharing. Kelcee is now in speech therapy and doing well. We go on Wednesday to the ENT to discuss putting the tube in her ears and removing the adnoids. I just want to get over with. We just finished with another double ear infection. She is enjoying swimming in the pool and has so much fun. She is quite the water baby. She wakes up every morning asking to swim.

I remember seeing this thread a few months ago and hoping I could post on it someday. Now I can!
This morning at 4:30, my Eve woke up hungry and when I went to her crib she stopped fussing, looked up at me and gave me that slow, sweet smile that starts at the dimple in her chin and spreads all the way to her beautiful blue eyes. And she gave me the soft little "Ooooh" that always means Mom I've missed you. It was just one of those wonderful moments when I'm so grateful to have my sweet baby girl. |

As a couple other people have mentioned about themselves, I am NOT a girly girl (don't wear makeup, rarely wear jewelry, etc.) but I get SUCH a thrill out of dressing Yuna in girly clothes!
I love her little daintiness and the way she smiles and the little girly screams and laughs she does.

Girls are the best!!! We have identical twin 2 1/2 years old and my favorite thing is to dress them in girly dress when we visit my dh family. Dh family is all boys! Our girls are the antithesis of these boys. They all being fair skined, red/or blond hair and blue eyes, my daughters have this lovely caffe latte skin, straight pitch black hair, and eyes. So... imagine these adorable little girls in their dresses keeping up with the boys!!!!! My dh's family is sooooo conservative and gender bias that I love when the girls are helping daddy with the hammer, screw driver, and playing with the truck at the same time pushing their dollies in the stroller. Or they are stacking the blocks just as high as the boys. Or playing in the dirt, water, etc.... My mother-in-law is having such a hard time that girls can be girls, or they can keep right up with those boys!!!
Then... what cracks me up is when the boys begin the play with the dolls, or pretend cook, etc... and watching my dh family struggle with the idea. Boys can't do those things. My dh and I are in our 40's with our little ones, while are nephews (my dh brother's sons) who are in their early 20's kids are the same age. These boys don't want their boys playing with the "dolls"? We might be bad... but we love to challenge the idea and often question everyone... What's wrong with them pushing the stoller, etc...: I love the GIRL POWER! What even tops everything, my girls are smart and already doing things that the older boys are doing. Makes it even better!!! |
