A few questions....
HI,
I am not sure where to post this so if it should be somewhere else please let me know. I am trying to throw a baby shower for a friend who is adopting. She requested we wait until they are out of PGN....which we did....so it is time to have a party! My question is: Is there a certain way to word the invites....all invitees know she is adopting. Does anyone know of a special keepsake book/memory book for adoptive moms? Thanks CK |

What a nice thing to do for your friend!
I'm an adoptive mom, and I think all my shower invitations said things like "Help us welcome H to the B-V family" As in your friend's case, most/all of our friends knew about the adoption by then. I can tell you that I wouldn't have cared at all how they were worded, though. I just thought it was lovely that so many people wanted to help us greet our baby. |

I was given a beautiful adoption scrap book that a friend found at Hallmark.
And I agree, have fun with the wording and enjoy. It's so great that you're doing this. |

Is she adopting from Guatemala? I've only heard of PGN through there, I thought, which is why I'm asking. Definitely post this on the Guat board if so.
What a nice idea!!! I don't really have any advice, but would have loved a baby shower the first time around. Us moms "expecting" our kids from somewhere outside of our body are often left out either because it's easy to forget, or because people are not sure how to handle it. Have fun! ![]()

Here is the wording my sisters used:
Their hearts are filled with happiness Their lives are filled with love They're adopting a bundle of joy They're receiving from above. My sister is creative and came up with it on her own. We did a domestic adoption and had our shower before we were matched.

For me...I really apreciated the normalcy of the baby shower my friends threw me. I wouldn't have liked it to be an "adoption" shower....but thats just me!
I also did not chose to use an adoption themed baby book.... This did not stem from denial or anything.... I just really craved normalcy. You may wish to talk to your friend about her feelings on the matter. |

My family just had a shower for me 3 weeks ago. (Our daughter was born on November 22nd.) Everyone who attended knew we were waiting to adopt. The invitation simply said:
"Please join us in welcoming ____ at a baby shower for _________" We were given a regular baby book which I think I will use and just add in any extra info. Several people gave us adoption storybooks, like "Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born". My husband's aunt wrote a beautiful poem about our adoption... how we waited for her to come along, how blessed we are. She typed it and framed it and we hung it in E's nursery. Enjoy the shower...how sweet of you to do it for her!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kathy |

I am with Jenna when we had my shower my friends and family held it just as normal shower. We are open with everyone but I too craved the normalcy of it all. I do however think a baby book ALONG with a special book about adoption might be nice just to cover both bases. Good Luck and I am sure she will love it no matter what you do. Cindy
