Unhappy 1st Time Eczema

What do you all use to help with your childs eczema. Kelcee has turned up with a bad case of it in the last few days. It is all over her trunk and legs.

I am doing the Eucerin, and baking soda baths but it seems to be getting worse.

Do the doctors sometimes prescribe something for it if it is bad enough?

I think there is prescription meds in bad cases. Have you tried Aquaphor? It's by Eucerin. I honestly don't know which is more intensive... but we've had luck with the Aquaphor (just bought more tonight!)

Are you sure it's eczema? Is it possible it's something else?

I guess it could be a reaction to something but I have been racking my brains to think if she has had anything new in her diet, haven't changed detergents, it is red raised bumps, very itchy to her, so I have had to put tights on her so she can't scratch it raw.

DS has dealt with eczema practically since birth.

I agree that your daughter's break out may be caused by something other than eczema. In either case, you should try a OTC hydrocortisone cream followed by the Aquaphor. If itching is driving her crazy, Benadryl will do the trick.

If you try those things and it's not cleared up in a day or so, you may need to see the doctor.

DS's eczema is triggered by environmental irritants such as detergents, perfumes, etc. as well as any time he has an infection (primarily ear infections).

Good luck and I hope your little one gets relief soon!

My daughter is now in elementary school and we have battled severe eczema since she was an infant. We use Aquaphor after every bath. We coat her with it before she is dry. She also uses a prescription cream for bad outbreaks and takes a prescription medication to help control the itching. When she was little we kept socks on her hands at night to prevent scratching. Good luck! Eczema is no fun!

Drihan gets is severely since birth due to food allergies and skin sensitivities and we pretty much have it in check. She gets bathed frequently with no, dyes, perfumes or synthetics and gets Aquaphor afterward. in between we use Cetaphil on her skin. For flare ups we use prescribed cultivate. We can't use hydrocortisone because it thins the skin and will change her skin color. Probiotics makes a HUGE difference. We use Udo's Choice for babies. Refridgerator part of healthfood store.

for one of my DS an eczema breakout as bad as your daughter, ie: all over her body, not just little patches here and there, meant that he had an infection. usually an ear infection or strep throat. it was my first sign. good luck

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if it was an infection myself. I will call the doctor on Tuesday.

And as far as our name that means we are special!!

We were originally prescribed Elidel but with the evidence of cancer we were switched to the Cultivate, just for some added info.

Thanks so much for the help. Drihan is beautiful. You are a lucky family to have her in your lives.

Denice - Sorry to hear Kelcee is so itchy. DD has it as well. For everyday use he told us to get Moisturel. It wasn't prescription but the pharmacy had to order it. Then he also gave us UCort - hydrocortisone cream for the really bad spots. Hers seems to flair up at night and when she gets hot. I have also used the Aveeno baby with oatmeal and she likes that.

My dd that we brought home in February has had her first bout with eczema since we brought her home because of the weather changing. I took her to our dermatologist and he gave me several creams to try. She, too, was broken out all over her mid-section, legs, and elbows. I tried Eucerin but it didn't seem to help. I also tried Aquaphor but it made her too greasy. I started using Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion and her eczema after 2 weeks was completely gone. Her skin is so hydrated all the time I can feel a huge difference. My dermatologist said that prevention is everything. I lotion her in the morning, at night, and when she gets a bath...which he said no more than 2 times a week. I ran out not too long ago and used the Eucerin until I was able to get to the store and it started to come back. I am completely sold on Aveeno. Give it a try and be diligent in putting it on!! Good Luck!! Ali

RJ has decided that he only needs 4 hours of sleep a night which has made the rest of us very tired and cranky. My last day will be feb 17th.

I have had it since I was little, but I have been able to keep it under control with an OTC ointment called "Dermal Therapy".

My daughter has it as well, and that is what I use on her.

It is an amazing ointment.

I hate to use any steroid creams as it does thin the skin. I used many during my lifetime only to find out many years later that they can also cause infertility as it gets into the bloodstream. Who knew?.
