Looking for help with a letter of recommendation question
One of my closest friends is in the process of filling out the paperwork and I am going to write a letter of recommendation for her and her husband. Anyone know what exactly should be in the letter or know where I could see a sample one? I know that they will be great parents and she is adopted and has always wanted to adopt but I want to make sure that I cover everything that I should in the letter. Thanks!

In ours, the agency had recommended guidelines. BUt if I remember correctly, they said to include:
How long you have known the couple Your relationship (friends, neighbors) Why you think they would make good parents Any observations you have on their ability to parent (they volunteer with kids, spend time with your kids, whatever) Also be sure to include your full name and contact information. I am sure you will do a wonderful job. Robin |

Robin has said pretty much what our letter of reference was to say. I think beyond that just be honest in how you feel about this couple.

Our agency used forms that they sent to people and the people filled those out.

I wish I saved my letters of recommendation (they are probably floating around somewhere). I think all of the things recommended here are good. And speaking from the heart is good too!! (Honestly, you can't go wrong! It is so nice that you are doing this for your friend.)

"I know that they will be great parents and she is adopted and has always wanted to adopt."
I would add the following statement above. The only difference is I would put a period after "parents". I would make "She is adopted.." a new sentence. My husband is also adopted. Our reference letters made mention of that as well. It brings out the point that we have already been touched by the miracle of adoption. |

In addition to the above comments, I would touch on how their personalities lend to positive parenting, their stability (financial, emotional, social, etc). Instead of saying you think they'd be great parents, illustrate WHY.

My friends talked a bit about how good our marriage was, how well we get along, are best friends....
Other than that I think this thread has said most of it. |
