OT: Haircuts
Hola,
So I'm spending $10 for a haircut and then $2 or $3 in a tip, every three weeks on Jory, who is 22 months. And I probably should be taking him every two weeks. Why doesn't my hair grow this fast? But I digress, I know that's not tons of money but it does add up over time. Has anyone thought of cutting their son's hair themselves? Does anyone do this? I saw a decent looking kit at Sears for like $40. Thoughts, Yash |

I bought a kit about 6 years ago and have been cutting my DH's hair ever since. My baby is only 2 months, but I plan on cutting his hair as well. I also cut my nephew's hair when he comes to visit. It is really easy to learn. Look at the tips that come with the kit, and if your hairdresser is kind enough, ask her for pointers or watch if a guy is getting a cut while you are.
I recomend getting a Walh clipper with a good safety trimmer attachment for doing the neck. A get one with all the gaurds. Once you get comfortable, it's kind of fun to try the others and really makes cutting easy. On my nephew I use #2 for the sides and #3 or #4 for the top. In summer #2 the whole thing. My DH, I use #2 or #3 on the sides and I used to use sissors for the top, but I have convinced him to let me start using the gaurds. We have tried #8 and #6. The left and right ear gaurds are great too. I don't mean to offend any hairdressers with my simplistic approach! Michelle

At that age, I'd get a clipper and buzz him. My wife has been cutting our kids (four boys) hair since they were born. The oldest (13) has finally gotten to the point where he's not willing to go along, even in the summer. Even after telling him that if he wanted something other than a buzz in the summer, he had to pay for his own cut, he still wasn't interested. Our twins (10) buck the plan during the school year, but don't mind in the summer. The youngest (7) doesn't care at all. Of course, I have mine buzzed too, to set a good example. Also, I can't stomach the idea of coughing up good money to cut hair.
Of course, I couldn't care less what anyone thinks of my haircut, nor do I expect anyone from the Ford Agency to stop me on the street and tell me to go into modeling. On the other hand, buzz cuts look great on the kids. Also, it's more than possible for the average mom to learn to give something more sylish than a crew cut. |

Thanks for the encouragement, sir. But now you have me worried, what if a scout from Ford Modeling Agency does see Jory walking down the street, but keeps walking because of his haircut?

A well placed banana peel should delay the scout long enough for an impromptu audition, and the bananas are an excellent source of potassium.

I cut my sons hair...but I'm a stylist, so i dont think that counts!!
I would suggest buying a peanut...its a small clipper that is really great for little boys. |

I'm a stylist TOO. If your going for an easy clipper cut And use the guards you'll have no problem. But if your picking up scissors PLEASE put them down. Haha. It could end up in a big mess. Good luck!

my dd is at hair cutting school. they have 1/2 off coupons so a cut for kids costs $3. maybe you should consider going to a school. when you do, ask for one of the students who has been there the longest. then ask the student if they have any coupons. they wont be insulted because they dont get any of the money anyway. good luck!
