Have you adopted more than once?
We are think of adopting a second time.
If you have adopted more than once how long did you wait between adoptions? And did you have to wait longer/shorter because you already had one child? |

Hi! We adopted both of our sons from Russia. There were 3 years between the adoptions (we started #2 almost exactly 2 years after Dennis came home). I think that having Dennis gave us the incentive to move forward a little faster, even if we didn't have the money, because we wanted them to be close in age.

Hi, I adopted my first daughter in 1998. By the time she was a year old, I wanted another baby. I also wanted her to have a sibling close in age. I decided to wait because I wanted to make sure Maire-Kate got to be a "baby" for a few years. By the time she entered preschool, she really wanted a brother or a sister -but she also seemed to need a lot of individual attention from me- so I held off on the adoption of another child. When she started second grade, we were both ready. I felt she was old enough to understand how a baby would need attention. She was old enough to be part of the whole process. I was worried that the age difference would keep them from being close but Maire-Kate adores Hanna and is a wonderful big sister. For me, it ended up being perfect timing.

We adopted last September - ds was 3 months old. I am currently waiting on ICPC to bring his sister home. Birthmom became pregnant again and asked if we would adopt this baby too. We agreed with no problem.
I wanted a second but thought I would wait until ds was about 2 yrs old. You know what they say about best laid plans!

Our children are 27 months apart. We applied for #2 when Bug was about nine months old. We were approved and waiting a year and 8 days when Roo was born. We waited into the 14th month for Bug. With our agency, they see no difference in wait times between those waiting for the first child or second. It really depends though, on what the expecting mother is searching for as she makes her parenting decision. They have very personal reasons for the choices they make. Sometimes averages or other's experiences have nothing to do with it. In our case, we were probably placed quicker (and our wait time was well below average for our agency) because we were willing to to consider some special needs (we were only one of four families willing to consider the situation with Roo). We were chosen partly because of Bug, in the fact the the expecting parents wanted to ensure that their child was not an only child. We fit what she wanted. |

Our oldest was born in 1998 and fall of 2000 we started everything again. We went with a different agency b/c we were living in a new area. Our second was born April 2001. They are exactly 3 years apart. We have been trying to adopt through foster care since the begining of this year; with no luck thus far. I would have loved to not have waited this long, but we just never were in the position to do it. We are hoping for a sib group so that we are done; I don't know how much more of this my nerves can handle!!!!

We have adopted twice and our boys are 3 years and 3 weeks apart. We only waited 5 months each time, so it didn't take longer the 2nd time.

First, Kat-L, we have a Hanna without the last h too!!!!
For our first adoption, we wasted 10 months with a pretty crappy agency. Our daughter, Hanna, was born in June 2005, 3 months after we signed on with our facilitator. We were planning on starting the process again in December 06 when she was 18 months old. Someone had other plans for us! We received an out of the blue phone call from the atty we used for Hanna's adoption just after her first birthday. We are currently matched and awaiting the birth of (hopefully) our second daughter in January. We waited 13 months to be matched the first time (2 different organizations, 2 failed matches, and 1 emotional scammer during that time). We were matched when her bmom was in labor. We met her two days later when she was 15 hours old. This time around, we didn't wait at all to be matched, but we are 4 months in to a 6.5 month match.

That is so exciting! It's wonderful that the children will be raised together. I'm glad his birthmother asked you to adopt her new baby.

It's a great name, isn't it?! Quote:
I firmly believe that whether you give birth or adopt, you get the child that was meant for you and your family. We're just destined to be family. It looks like your second child ( and JeanneM's second baby ) had their own plans on when they would be joining their new families! It's absolutely wonderful.

Our son was born in 2002. It took 1 year from the time we started until the time we brought him home. We adopted him as a newborn and brought him home from the hospital. Our daughter was just born in August. It took us 3 years this time. One of those years was with an agency that we just didn't "gel" with. They've been successful for others, but we didn't hit it off with the main caseworker, so after a year we gave up with them and went back to our original agency. It took us 20 months with them. It did take longer and during the wait I thought it was going to kill me. But it was OOOOOOHHHHH SOOOOOO worth it!
