Talking Finally Drinking from a cup

Boy am I glad we are on a new path. Kelcee finally drank some milk from a cup this morning I was beginning to think my mom was right and that she would never give up the bottle. She will drink anything from a sippy cup or my cup just not milk But today we had some progress. Hopefully the bottles will be completely gone soon My baby is growing up

My son would have nothing to do with cups either. He'd bat them away. He's a very stuborn lil guy!!

Eventually (at 15 months, i think) I just took all the bottles and packed them up. I placed a sippy cup of milk in front of him......and waited.

I made sure to give him lots of fruit that day to stay hydrated....but by 3 he had no issue with the sippy cup what-so-ever.

and that was it!

Awww yeah! It is hard, though, when they hit milestones and are one step further away from baby and one step closer to toddler. We just recently FINALLY got rid of DS's paci. He will be 3 in Jan! He only got it at night, but it was well overdue. I think DH & I took it harder than he did. He is soooo big boy now...so independent. I miss everything baby, kwim? Ugh..they grow too fast!!!!!!!

YOU MEAN IT DOENS'T HAPPEN THAT WAY?!?!?!

Oh man!

We too had issues with our girl giving up the bottle. I eventually did the same as Leigh. Took care of that issue right off the bat!

My daughter (18months) will drink from the sippy cup but more comes out of her mouth than she swallows. (She watches it cover the front of her shirt.) It makes a huge mess. plus she loves tipping the cup and seeing the "neat" wet patterns and designs she can make where ever she is.
Has anyone else had this problem? She is fine some times but always chooses to make this huge mess, it has become a game for her. She fights me if I tip the cup for her and refuses to drink. I have found the bottle toppers which screw on the top of bottles to be the best, she has to work really hard to get them to spill out and she swallows better because she has to suck to allow the liquid to come out so she does not get a mouthfull to spit out.

Any suggestions I have let her use the sippy cups but the cleanup is ridiculous for me including the carpet shampooer and the constant clothes changing. Will she just quit playing at some point or should I just stick with the bottle topper that work.

Shells90, try giving her a cup with a straw. My son WOULD NOT give up his bottle, even after he was 2 years old. I gave him a cup with a straw and the bottle was gone immediately. They sell "disposable" cups with straws and air-tight lids at the grocery store. They can go thru the dishwasher, though, so it's not like you have to keep buying new ones. Our package of 6 or 8 has lasted a year.

She drinks fine from a straw but again on her own she will tip it upside down to drain the liquid and make a mess or fill her mouth so full she then opens it to soak the front of her. It definately seems to be playtime for her if at all possible. That is why I know it is a choice for her because she can do fine but given any leeway on her own and she "plays".

Yeah Kelcee!!!!!!

Shells - DS went through the phase of letting whatever he was drinking run down his chin. I only let him have water unless he was sitting in his high chair. He got over it quickly. His current favorite is to hold grapes in his cheek and just suck on them until all of the inside and juices are gone then he brings me the skin.

I can't wait until this phase is over. I do give her water when not in her high chair. She still will soak herself but no stains. Her latest "I am finished eating" signal is to open her mouth and let the last bite fall out, letting me know she is done. I haven't tried grapes but that sounds like something ema would definately do plus no liquid mess.

Thanks for the suggestions I know one day she will suddenly drink like a proper young lady.
