Finding a job while waiting?
I pretty much quit my job today, but although I'm not 100% sure I won't go back, I really don't want to (not going to get into it, let's say I just couldn't take rude comments and being yelled at anymore, plus I want a 20ish hour job, not a 38 hour one).
So now I have a problem. We've been waiting for 5 months, and I have no idea how longer it will be before we are matched... I would like a 20ish hour job, but I don't know how to handle things, knowing we might be matched anytime. Does anyone have any advice? |

Substitute teach... if you have a degree.
Schools are always looking for subs. |

I have a three year college degree, but it's a French one. I've actually been looking for a French teaching job (or just helping kids with French for school, you know), I just have no idea where to look

In most places you can sub with any degree. You just have to go to the school board and inquire how to get certified. My sister did it while in college. She had enough credits. It was nice because she got to pick and choose her hours. If she had something that day, she said no.

I would think you could do that - sub French classes.
Or have you thought about tutoring French students? Or tutoring in general? Part time retail work in a children's store of some sort? Maybe a cute, little, trendy place?

Thanks for the advice, definitely something I will look into.
I went to a place I like today and I am starting on Tuesday (sort of - mostly a probation period). I didn't mention the adoption at all... Any advice? I'm a bit worried I will have an emergency placement and they won't even know I'm adopting... |

You don't need to take the Praxis test or be certified to be a sub. And I think if you are close to graduating, they would accept you. Otherwise, if you dropped out in your 3rd year and won't get your BA or BS, you would only qualify to be a teaching assistant, not a sub.
Good luck! |

You could maybe teach French at a private school. I know the private schools in in RI and MA don't require that you have a teaching degree. I don't know if it's the same everywhere. However, 30 hours a week, 2.5 months summer vacation, a week vacation in December, Feb, and April sound good to me.
My dad was a teacher. Teaching is almost the perfect profession for raising kids. Good luck! Beth |
