Answer?
Not sure how to phrase this question, so please bare with me. We are adopting in Texas without an agency. Afterwards, we are planning on moving to another state. I wanted to see if anyone knew how long you have to stay in the state of adoption after the adoption is finalized? Is there a requirement? We will stay as long as it takes, but wanted to see how long that is.
Thanks!

We are also in Texas and our agency said that if you move after finalization you just have to give them your new phone number and address. Not sure how it works without an agency though.

You can't finalize in TX for at least 6 months, after that, you're free to move. Most agencies want forwarding information so if the birthparents need/want to keep in touch they can. Also, so if any medical information needs updated. Just leave a forwarding address with your attorney. If you have an open adoption make sure the birth family knows how to keep in touch with you.

You CAN move before finalization, we did it. What you have to do is have a TX agency take charge of he case and hire an agency in your new state top do the post placement study then come back and finalize in TX. It is complicated but doable. Or you could just ait until after finalization to move.
