?? about private adoption in TX..
Hi everyone,
I need help with Texas adoption laws.. We have a match with a birthmom in Texas (we are in Canada). She needs birthmom expenses... I'm hearing that if she accepts assistance, then she MUST use an agency and that the agency gets legal custody until the adoption is finalized (around 6 months). First, is that true? How can we travel with the baby if we don't have guardianship of the baby...specifcally, how can we get a birth certificate or a passport (in order to get back into Canada) with the baby? I'm not *that* worried about her having to go through an agency...it's more money..but you get used to hearing that in the adoption world right? My biggest concern is how do we get the baby home? Also..in Texas a birthmom has 10 days to revoke consent...is that right? Can the baby go into care for those 10 days and then come to us? Or do we have to be present? Anyone who knows anything about Texas law would be a great help! Thanks! Michelle |
