Adoption of babies through the state?
Can you get babies through the state and how do I find out what is available through our state or neighboring states. Our private agency hasn't given us any information about this option so I need to educate myself on it.
Thanks, H |

This often depends on which state you're talking about. Some states have more babies to offer (through the foster care system) than others. In my own state, having a baby as a foster child that will actually become adoptable, is almost rare. Too often, the baby goes back (at least once) to the bios, only to be removed again months later (and with more damage to boot
).It is more common to receive a toddler, but please keep in mind that even toddlers can have severe issues---especially if they have been in foster care for very long. If you are planning to go this route, may I strongly recommend reading up on attachment issues, talking with parents who have already BTDT, and joining a group with parents of older child adoptions. While every baby/child (bio or adopted) has risks to a point, adopting within the state system more often than not, has many challenges. To check on possibilities, go to USKIDS. Google foster children photolistings; and...one that we've personally done in years past, simply attain the phone numbers of the CPS districts near you, or in major cities. (These can be googled or found through phone info services.) Call them when you have your homestudy completed and tell them exactly what you are looking for, and if any are available for adoption. While this may seem too direct, our experience has been that many caseworkers are more than happy to discuss any possibilities with you. And, more than once, they took our name and sent info to us in order to keep our names on file! Good luck. Sincerely, Linny |

Here is WA, with the meth problem getting worse and worse, it actually happens more often that it used to. Both my boys were very young...2 days old and 8 weeks old...the first adoption finalized before he was a year old, the second when he was 13 months old. With Bug, he was his parents second child in 2 years to have been adopted...his sister was also placed when she was 4 weeks old.

Adoption of babies through the state?
That is pretty much what we thought. My Mom suggested checking on it since domestic infant adoption is taking so long.

We adopted our baby through our state. It was 18 years ago. I have heard that there are more infants because of the problem with Meth. I do not know if this is true.

It's really sad to hear that meth is putting more babies in the foster system, but there is some truth to that where I'm from. I live near 2 major cities and I hear about a new meth lab being busted every month. It has pretty much taken over this town and alot of the surrounding ones. So many parents are running meth labs out of their homes with their babies and small children.
My friend is a foster parent, and she just got twin baby girls (I think they're 9 months) from the county last week. Their mother was running a meth lab in the house with not only those 2 babies, but a 2 and a 3 yr old.

I have heard that so many twins are being born to moms taking meth. I wonder if this causes more twins? I have heard that it does cause more births. I wish there were answers to this problem. I have heard people say they wish that the mother's rights were terminated faster if they are on drugs. I know that my niece was so scared that her rights would be terminated when she tested positive to meth after her twins were born. My niece did go to rehab and did get help. She continues to test negative for drugs. She does realize that this is a daily battle. I do not have the answers. I hate for a baby to stay in foster care long periods of time due to the mother refuses to get off of drugs. But, I feel sorry for the mother's that do battle the addiction.
