OT-Anyone tried making hair bows?

Does anyone make their own hair bows for their daughters? I'm tired of paying $5-$10 a bow. There are so many kinds of cute ribbon out there, I've decided I'm going to try it myself. I bought an instruction book, but I'm curious if anyone else has tried this.

My aunt made some of ours and all the ones for her granddaugthers so they would match every outfit they owned.

She did it a variety of ways. When they were very little, she used elastics and little rubber bands. Eventually, she put them on barrettes.

Easy things to make (not bows, but...) are rag tie ones - just cut strips of cloth and knot all the way around an elastic. You can do the same thing with a pair of rubber thong flip flops, too - to match from head to toe!

Siiiiiiggggghhh. I have a boy. I was just saying yesterday that I wouldn't be able to put pretty bows in his hair........

Oh well. I'm saving money, I guess!

I haven't but I'd love to learn how. A woman in my church used to make hair bows and would sell them. As far as I remember she bought some kind of gadget thing that helped her. She had bunches and bunches of bows.

It would be a very good way to make some extra money.

Are you making the bows attached to a head band(looks like sweat band) or just attaching them to barrettes? My SIL would make the sweat band types. I did make one of those years ago. Having three girls everything matches. LOL.

My MIL found tons of bows at Walmart that look like the $5 bow. They are about $2.50 a pack for 5 bows. We now own about 20 bows!

I make them and sell them on Ebay and from my website. I'm very picky about the kind of ribbon I use, so be sure and get the ribbon that is washable. For starters, it's washable (ha), and second it's so much easier to work with. I think it looks a lot nicer, too. Check out Ebay for ribbon vendors, too. Sometimes you can get a great deal on the top quality, high-end ribbon. Good luck and have fun!

Well, I made my first bow and I think it turned out good! I bought a tutorial off of Ebay. I also bought 26 alligator clips, so we're going to have bows coming out of our you-know-whats!

Let me tell you, once you get started you won't be able to STOP!! It's addictive! PLUS, if you are an Ebayer, like me, you can make bows to match outgrown outfits, then put them on Ebay to sell for a bit more. It's SOOOOOO much fun!
