Adopting while being posted overseas??
Hello, I'm new here. I found this site while searching for information about adopting while being posted in Germany.
My husband and I had just started the adoption process last year when out of the blue he got posted to Germany. At first we thought we'd wait until our return to Canada in 2011 to start the process again but have since decided that we don't want to wait. We would like to know if it's possible to adopt either internationally or from Canada while we are here. We have heard of people who have done this before but have no contact information on them. Has anyone here done this or heard of anyone who has sucessfully done this? I've emailed almost every adoption agency in Canada looking for answers but nothing yet. I'm in the process of communicating with the ministry but haven't heard back yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Evelyn ![]() |

I'm and American and adopting while living in Germany (civilian). I exchanged info with "weeboonana", a Canadian who may also be living overseas while attempting to complete an adoption. I suggest PMing her. She has started a few threads also asking for help, see http://forums.adoption.com/forumdisplay.php?f=180
Best wishes! |

Yes,yes,yes
You can adopt while being stationed overseas.
We have friends who were stationed in Japan and adopted a baby from Cambodia. I do know that there are lots of babies, and toddlers in Russia and the other former countires of the USSR that are in orphanages and need homes. Check out this website. www.frankadopt.org. They are based in NC. They handle a lot of Russian adoptions. Not sure if they can help you with you being in Germany, but maybe they can point you in the right direction. |

We were stationed in Japan when we adopted our first two babies from Korea and Japan. (I understand that to adopt from Japan now, can be very hard to do.)
This has been years ago, but it was done without a lot of hassles---except from the US side of things! I'd suggest that you talk to the military attorney on base to get some agency suggestions. If this doesn't help (sometimes it doesn't)....then ask someone at the local USO type facility, or the human resources center, etc. They can give you names of local agencies that deal with international adoptions. In our case, we had to satisfy the requirements of the country the baby came from, the USA and our residential state. It required more paperwork, but it happened! Our first baby was found through the agency; the second one was found through a course of friends who knew an MD with her own clinic and a birthmother who wanted to relinquish rights. And, while this has been many years ago, I know that while we were in Korea, the agency told us that most of their babies went to families residing in Germany! If I can be of any help, please feel free to pm me. Best of luck to you! Sincerely, Linny |
