OT, help needed
I am trying to find a link that proves locking a child in their room is illegal and considered abuse. Does anyone know where I can find it. I have it in my paperwork from the homestudy, but I need a link to prove to someone who does it that they can't do it.

Not sure it IS illegal in all places especially if you canprove that it is for their own safety. I had a foster son who had rages. I that state he would hurt himself and others before he calmed down. His SW and therapist recommened having a "safe room" where he could thrash around without hurting himself or anyone else. Now this was over ten year ago so thing may have changed. I know you can't lock them in at night because it is a fire hassard but for short periods while monitored like for time outs I think may be legal.

These women are locking toddlers in their rooms so they won't get into the parents bedroom and try to sleep with them. I was told in our state CT it is illegal by our SW.

I just did a quick search and came upwith this. The info is on the adoption.com website below. There is an excerpt below it which I copied from it.
Taken from an article here: http://library.adoption.com/Discipline/Children-With-Problem s/article/776/1.html Handling the wandering around at night will be a bit more complicated. You can't lock their door - it is illegal,

having had "night visitors" for several years now i understand the frustration. My brother came up with the cleverest solution I have seen. He had twins that were off the charts tall at one year. These two could scale a baby gate like it was nothing. They would get out at night and go wandering. They were terrified that they would manage to get out of the condo wjile their parents slept. My brother installed a "Dutch" door and openned the top part so that they could look out and my brother could hear them if they woke up at night but the kids couldn't get out. They had to special order it from Home Depot but it was not expensive and it just goes in like a regular door with pins in the hinges.

We have a wanderer too, so we installed a screen door on our son's room. He can scale any baby gate....
Another thing that worked for awhile was a crib tent.....we also "bagged" him. We made a little jammie cover that had a bag at the bottom. If you can't seperate your legs you can't hook on over the top of the crib....(he is only 21 months old...). The problem is that he is so strong her would bend his body over the crib side and throw himself over...that ended up being more dangeous then the getting out of bed in the first place!! Not many kids are as strong as he is though...... So, the screen is working for us....I like the dutch door idea though......... |
