medi-cal transfering to another state?
maybe someone on here can help me with this one...
I'm moving to the east coast with my son... I was told that his Medi-Cal would no longer work once we leave California. BUT then I was told that the next state we go to would "pick up" and cover his insurance with their program... Anyone know anything about this? I'm still going to pay for him to have my insurance but I want the state coverage because we'll have a 2 month lapse and I don't want to pay for cobra for him (or me).... I also want to have the state as aback up since they occassionally cover things my insurance doesn't cover 100%

Yep, we did it too. It's no biggie. Our coverage in Utah is expanded over what MediCal offered. You'll probably get a letter from the new provider, once you alert MediCal to the move. In any event, call them once you have your new address. I was never alerted to anticipate a change in coverage before we moved. Our new doc's office gave me the phone number but it should also be on your CA insurance information. It took less than a week to get a new card from Utah. In the meantime, MediCaid faxed verification of coverage into our new pediatrician. I got a copy of it from that office, just in case we had an ER visit. Terms of coverage should be the same, no matter where you go in the U.S.. There won't be any lapse in coverage. If anything emergent happens before coverage is transferred then it will be retroactively paid once the state with jurisdiction issues you a card. In any event, it sounds like you've got back-up coverage too. Don't panic. ![]() Last edited by SanInUtah : 07-06-2006 at 09:54 PM. Reason: clarifica |
