ICPC Timelines
OK I am trying to figure out how much time I really have to be in Indiana. How long is ICPC. Has anyone adopted out of state from Indiana and how long did you have to wait for ICPC to go through.
And since we are on it. What are the other states timeframes. AJ |

Get ready, because it can sometimes take awhile. We were in Ohio for almost 6 weeks. We even knew Ohio had received the paperwork but they just sat on it. The day KY received it we went home. Very frustrating, but of course worth it all!

My facilitator told me that on average, ICPC takes 4-10 business days to clear. But the state has up to 30 business days, and sometimes it does take longer. DH and I are planning that we'll probably need to be gone for about 2 weeks, including the birth.

1st adoption ICPC between MN and Washington State took about 7-8 business days from start to finish (stayed in WA a little less than 2 weeks).
2nd adoption ICPC between MN and CA took about 11-12 business days (we stayed in Cali for almost 3 weeks); however, CA is supposedly one of the slowest ICPC-moving states. |

ICPC for us (we live in CA, baby was born in IL) was 3 days. We had to stay another day for court because the attny was out of town and couldn't do it the day before.
I should say - that is 3 days AFTER relinquishments were signed. hmm not sure why CA would be one of the slowest moving ICPC states - each agency has the ability to take care of the paperwork rather than it having to go to one office in the state. Oh I should also say - this was just June of 06! Things can change DRASTICALLY in a short amount of time. The standard answer we've always been given is 5-10 business days after relinquishments for just about any state. There are a couple that require a longer stay though. |

First adoption OK to MN = 5 days.
Second adoption UT to MN = 5 days.

I only know that if Ohio involved, count on S-L-O-W. Hope that's not the case for you. Generally I believe 5-10 days is much more normal.

Yes, 5-10 business days I think is normal...UNLESS YOU ADOPT FROM OHIO!!!! TERRIBLE ICPC STATE! Our SW told us at most 2 weeks. Once we got there & the baby was born, the OH agency told us 6 WEEKS!!!! Our state had everything done, OH took FOREVER! They told me that they have 1-2 social workers working on ICPC for EVERY COUNTY!! EVERY COUNTY!!! Not city, COUNTY!!
Our first took 1 1/2 days. From MI to WI. Our second took 5 days from IL to WI. Our 3rd too 2 weeks! Sqyeaky wheel got the grease! OH to WI. I called EVERYDAY sometimes a couple times a day to the Ohio agency! LOL I think they did it to get rid of me! LOL Deb

I had figured 2 weeks, I'll let you know how long it takes.
Hopefully GA and IN will be on the same timeframe. AJ |

from IL to OK for our sons adoption was about 24 hours, while we were waiting for the 72 hours to sign relingquishment our attornies had all the ICPC stuff ready so that the morning they were signed they were sent overnight to OK, they approved them the next AM - faxed them back to IL and we were on our way home. Of course this was a week before christmas and they really pulled to get us home quickly !

MO to CA
We adopted a newborn from MO. Court was Friday, MO sent papers to CA on Monday, CA got them on Tuesday... and then tried to contact our agency for more info, but nobody was returning their calls. Finally, we got the call on the following Friday, so 6 business days.
I've heard that CA is a bad ICPC state too. ![]() Good luck! -R

We spent 12 days in GA, but we were told it usually doesn't take that long...we were waiting for the hospital to release our dd's medical information but they were being stubborn about it. Since they don't do any ICPC work on weekends, we had to stay an extra weekend because our dd was released from the hospital at 5:00 p.m. on a Friday so the paperwork didn't get started until Monday. Our SW was sure we'd be able to go home by Friday, but had to stay until the following Monday due to the hospital not cooperating.
