Carissa, congratulations on your decision to adopt from Korea! What a wonderful adventure you have ahead of you!
In terms of your family, I can understand in that DH and I chose to tell our families of our plans to adopt from China. In our case though, we BOTH have to be 30 to adopt, and when we told them, I had just turned 27. Our immediate family was happy for us, but our extended family totally didn't get it. One thing you might consider is creating a "dear friends and family" letter or email that expresses your excitement about adopting and explains why you're adopting, why you chose Korea, and what is involved in this process. We found that most people don't know what you have to go through to adopt or what the process is like, and once they understand a little bit better, they can be more supportive - and they can be more excited for you too when you reach milestones in the paperchase because they'll understand what those milestones are and why they're important. I think some of our friends and family initially thought that we just had to fill out a form and a baby magically appeared. Good luck with your adoption! |

Patientlywaiting -- thank you for the sensitive clip about infertility. It meant so much to me to view it, too. susan

Hi everyone..
Thank you so much for all of your support... you don't know how much it means to me! The video clip was wonderful, I never saw that before. I am definately going to share it with others. I love hearing all of your success stories and how you are feeling about infertility and adoption now. It makes me feel so much better that maybe one day I will get there. Carissa, Christie, mommy3, and everyone else- thanks so much for your concern. It is nice to hear that someone understands, instead of thinking I am crazy... Brat- I loved your comment that you were all parents and you kept your "er, figure." It made me laugh, which is very rare these days. And the fact that I was expecting as well was wonderful to hear. riverview- what is page 98? Soooo.... I went to a bridal shower this past weekend with my sister-in-law who is pg with her FOURTH (and she had to tell me it was an "oops"), and everyone was making such a big deal about it like they usually do, and as selfish as this sounds, I was jealous. Then a miracle happened... my 6 y/o niece was talking about adoption and how she can't wait for her new cousin (my child-to-be)... another woman starting making a big deal about MY NEWS. She was oohing and ahhing, and saying how special adoption was. I finally started to feel good for once and getting my "big deal." It felt great. Have a great day everyone... take care ![]()
