Nice to meet you. I'm new to this site also, although I have on occasion read posts here. I have just registered and am looking forward to giving and getting advice as well as just making friends. Being an adoptive mom is special and I don't have any in-the-flesh friends that have adopted and can relate to our unique challenges and joys.
My husband and I adopted over 2.5 years ago. We have a boy, six years old, and a girl, eight years old. They are sweet and loving kids with just a trace of RAD behavior here and there, but mostly WONDERFUL kids. We are so happy that we did take a chance on older special needs kids, though some warned us not to, it has been the right decision for us. Since we our both is our mid-late forties I'm sure some people thought we were just to old to begin parenting. Now that we've been settled in as a family for a while we're ready to add more. We will begin looking at fost-adopting one or two more kids when we return from summer vacation (we're both teachers) We are excited about having a "big" (by today's standards) family, and the kids will make wonderful, loving older siblings. I so often feel that I want to shout out to the world that adopting older, domestic and transracial doesn't have to be very tough-it can even be joyful and rich! Janice aka minxycat
