Congrats!!! Be thankful it's a short wait - this is the worst part of the "waiting" if you ask me!!

KLL - how'd it go? It was today, wasn't it?

The meeting last night was great! Well at least DH and I thought so. It was the first time we have met an emom and the first time she had met PAP's too. So at first we all just kind of looked at each other like well what do we do? haha, but after that she did most of the talking. And she asked us if we had a name picked out for her yet?!? I didn't know what to say. I know that she hasn't chosen a family yet, but we were the first she did meet...so maybe she made up her mind last night when she met us. I can only hope, right?!? But we know her due date now, but the dr. has said she could go at anytime! So we are hoping she goes into labor before she meets the other PAP and she calls us. She's delivering at the hospital just down the street! I really did just love her, I thought she was so sweet and I could just tell by the way she talked she is such a great mother to her other children. I really do hope that she picks us because I really think that we would get along well in an OA. I couldn't sleep in this morning, I just finished cleaning up the nursery. I feel really good about this situation, and at peace about it...and that's all we have been praying for in this journey is peace. It feels so good right now.

First of all, congrats to all who have gotten good news lately.

We've only been waiting for 2 months, so I really can't complain about much. I sent an email to our cw to find out how things were looking for the agency, compared to last year. She replied that the number of matches were way down in all of their programs. The longest waiting couple in their biracial program (which we're in) has been waiting for 2 years. There is another interracial couple also waiting, but they already have kids, while we do not.

I'm not sure how to look at this- if a potential birth family is open to any racial composition, then there is a fairly open pool. If they are looking for an interracial couple, then it's a 1 in 2. If they want sibs for their baby, we're out of the picture, but if they want their baby to be the only child, then we're it.

Since there's really no way of telling who will walk through the door at any given moment, or will give birth, but choose not to parent, our cw didn't have much to say, other than empathize that the holidays can be a little tough during the waiting game.

I am trying to not be such a control freak....

Meghann, oh wow! Any day now?? You must be freaking out. Best of luck!!

KLL, best of luck to you as well! The situation sounds very promising...hope it works out for you.

I don't check in often and it's great to see such exciting news when I do log on. Been waiting over 8 months now and no news as of yet. Just trying to be patient, but I've been distracted too...we're selling our house and buying one next month!

Baby dust to all!

Wow! Everyone's been waiting a long time.

We just started our wait (officially submitting our profile) a few days ago. I guess we better settled in for awhile, huh.

Congrats to KLL and Meghann!!

Daisy - not necessarily!! We've had some people matched up very quickly on this thread!! Heck, vogi got her first and second baby since this thread started (and the second baby they got the day BEFORE they handed in their paperwork -yes I said BEFORE)

There is no rhyme or reason to it! I've always found agency stats very telling. Our agency says their average wait is 18 months. They do aprox. 60 adoptions per year and have aprox 120 waiting parents. So, in my mind that means it should take about two years.

But the bottom line is - someone can come and see your profile and just click with it, time has NOTHING to do with that.

Good Luck!!

This is true!! Our babies did come fast, the second faster (heck like she said BEFORE). The first we waited approx 6 months or so, but it was literally a call on Friday, baby by Tuesday!!

Oh, I hope that will be the case, of course!!!

I obsess over things, though. For instance, I asked our sw for her opinion on our dear birth parent's letter and she gave me some suggestions and I revised it. She said she really liked it, so I used it when I ordered our profile.
Well, I send the profile with the letter (which I painstakenly glued to the inside jacket) and she emails me that another sw in the office had some suggestions in regards to the letter. So, now I have to re write it, because the suggestions are really good ones. Now all I can think is that our letter isn't good enough and I have to rush to replace it and the profile.

I'm sure it's fine, right? LOL!!

wait time

I just want some opinions from those of you waiting and already placed. I'm just trying to figure out how to estimate a wait time for the agency I am with, b/c my worker has not given me one. I am currently on the special needs waitlist, which they have told me they place about 7 children a year for this list, and there are currently 9 families on the list. Also, I will soon be on another waitlist as well where they place about 16 babies a year and that list has 25 families on it at all time. Any opinions, I know these things are not predictable??????????????

I've been waiting for 7 months.

Waiting - just do the math. If 9 people are waiting and they do 7 adoptions per year.......aprox wait should be 15 months or so...

with your other program.. 25 families waiting - 16 adoptions per year.... a little over a year and a half would be an aproximte wait.

The only reason stat's are even important - for MY agency anyway. When giving the emom profiles to look at - they find the ones that match emom's criteria and then show the ones that have waited longest first. So in MY case, my file didn't even get shown the first year. It's pretty hard to have that magical click with an emom if your file hasn't even been shown!! LOL!

Anyhoo ...those would be a statistical average - but that doesn't always mean anything. Could be alot longer or alot shorter.

thanks

Thanks for the feedback on my wait. I know it is so unpredictable. I guess I'm feeling the seven month itch or something. I've been doing really good being patient up until this month. I have been lucky enought to be shown to a few birthmom's during the last seven months, but have had no activity the past three months. I should be on both waitlist's at the same time in a few months, so hopefully being on both simultaneously will increase my chances. This waiting just SUCKS!!!!!! I told my husband I have a right to say it SUCKS, when technically I've been waiting five years for my family.
