OnTheJourney, welcome! Our process has been similar to yours, found out last June we couldn't have kids w/o serious medical intervention and even then it was risky. We started researching last summer and now here we are a year later, waiting to be matched, like you. It is the hardest thing I've ever had to do! I have no patience whatsoever!

Got an e-mail from our agency about a lawyer they know in another state who has several AA and AA/CC babies due to be born in the next few months who need families. We were hoping to adopt in our state, through our agency, but we're thinking about having our profile sent over. Time to branch out I guess!!

Hello Ladies,

I rad your thread and decided to join in. My name is Lillian I live in Ca the east bay to be exact. I am a single parent of 1 she just turned 12yrs old. I am looking to foster-adopt 2-11yrs old f or sibling group under 4. My homestudy was approved back in february of 06, let me not lie these are the longest months of my life. i am totally stressing, waiting, waiting and waiting I had one emrgency placement for a 16 year old, i though that it would help out my case, being responsible and all, nope nothing..totally waiting...during this process I have managed to make a memory book and working on several quilts..it helps some i guess...but it does not help to see an empty bed...
time will only tell i guess.

toddles

Thanks for the welcome... I wish all of you the best!

Sooo... I did a first today and I kind of have the giggles about it...
I bought a couple little things for our future baby!!!
We have been given all the big stuff as hand me downs from finished family members, but DH insists everything is put away out of sight. He is so afaid of getting his hopes up to fast. But I'm so excited, I've been ichin' to just get something. After I saw that alot of you are, I did it. It's soooooo fun!

Just a really cute, fuzzy, soft little blanket that I paid way to much for and the matching receiving blankets, again tooo much $$$.
I guess when he/she comes then I'll budget. Price tags are not for 1st timers. lol

Ohh..buy those expensive splurge purchases NOW!! Before you feel guilty! lol

Now that I'm a stay at home mom, we just can't afford the ultra-expensive (and ADORABLE) outfits...

but....

that's what grandparents are for!! lol

Seriously, between grandparents and birthfamily....I don't spend a cent on clothing!

Well, i don't HAVE to anyway...sometimes you just wanna buy something too! lol

I hear you on the Grandparent thing. This will be the 1st on DH's side. I think I may have caught a glimpse of some baby stuff ALREADY when we were over the other day.

I'm kinda thinking the shopping may be like potato chips, can't stop at one!

DH could be in for a surprise if this waiting goes on too long! When he opens 'the closet of supplies', he may have to wear a helmut to protect from the tumbling piles!

M

My advice to you...if you start to purchase clothing...they grow REALLY fast...like, out of newborn stuff in a week or less sometimes...SO, make sure you buy less newborn sizes and more 3months and up. You can always put them in a bigger outfit and let them grow into it.

I regret making some things the smaller sizes, not realizing just how quickly they grow out...and how little it matters that things are baggy.

Wow you're lucky, if I had to count on family our little one would be naked for his first few months

I would say, while you have time, definitely take your time to look at consignment stores and other shops to grab good deals on sale (department stores are great too). I have enough clothes for the first 3-4 months (unless we get a huge baby that is), and I didn't spend more than $5 on 90% of it.

Shopping urges

I have to say, shopping for the needed accessories was therapy for me. It helped remind me that I WAS going to need it. . someday. Our "supply closet" now contain a few outfits (2 or 3 for the first two weeks, and 1 or 2 in bigger sizes), the carseat/stroller combo, two packages of diapers, some nursery decorations, the diaper bag, etc. I won't put up the wall decor in the nursery until we bring home the little one, but I have the crib set up. We use it when our nieces come to stay.

After our last social worker visit, I had to get something, and I really wanted one of those front carrier things, so I bought it. DH isn't so keen on the shopping therapy, for the same reasons you mentioned, OntheJourney. But you're right, it's hard to stop once you get started! I even signed up online and am getting formula coupons. I'm thinking about starting buying some when the coupons get close to expiration, depending on how long the powder lasts. Our social worker told us you can never have enough of some things - formula, diapers, and wipes! And those things are easy to exchange if you need to switch brands.

Leigh, any other people on the quilt list? I am going to start looking for my material to send out.

Nikki,

I have received a few responses, some from another thread....Sooo, i was thinking of starting a specific thread for it, and cross posting it in all the main adoptive parent sections. I'm going to a movie tonight, but when i get home i think I'll do an official thread, and respond to everyone i did hear from!

Gosh, this week has been crazy busy for me..

M did awesome at the Olympics....well....aside from a few temper tantrums..WHO SETS UP GYM EQUIPMENT AND EXPECTS TWO YEAR OLDS NOT TO WANT TO JUMP ON IT??? of course he was upset!!

and don't get me started on the "walk around the table that has one cupcake on it, when the music stops whoever is in front of the cupcake gets it"

HI all. I am a new memeber on this board. I will read this entire thread but I figured I should post and say hello in the meantime. Being that this thread is 10 pages long it will take me a while to read everything...lol
Here is some starting info. My name is Laurie I am 29 (almost to be 30) and myself and my husband, 32 are in the process of completing our paperwork and get our homestudy completed to adopt.

I hope to find some people to spend the journey with so that it will just fly right by (cant you tell I am new at this???!!)

Good luck to everyone!!!
