I don't think this is a "bad" thing...
....but. DD will occasionally spend long stretches of time (1 1/2 hrs so far this aft) in her crib AWAKE. I can hear her babbling off and on, she's not unhappy. Sure oughta be tired tho. I keep thinking she'll fall asleep. She's happy, healthy and quite social when out and about. Anybody see a red flag here, or should I just count my blessings
and let her decide when she wants out? thanks, max

Munchkin spends about an hour in her room daily, reading books (though she can't read yet). She's always needed some alone quiet time during the day. I don't see a red flag. Nick babbles in the morning for about fifteen minutes before saying, "HEY! GET ME!" which sounds more like 'GAHHHHHH"

Not a bad thing at all. My DD is a very social kid, but she is definitely introverted and needs "quiet time" to herself in order to be able to handle being around lots of kids. She regularly plays by herself in the morning before coming out of her room (or in the evening before going to sleep) for an hour or more. She's happy, so hey, I get some time to myself.
Enjoy it. Totally normal for some kids. (and incidentally, DH is the same way-- he gets up well before all of us, because he needs his "quiet time" in the morning too!)

The two children I raised were very diffierent: the older one let you know as soon as he was awake and wasn't happy until he was out of the cribe. My daughter was like your daughter, quite content to play in her crib for long periods of time. When she was tired after her lunch, she would start crawling up the stairs to go to bed! My suggestions to you is enjoy, and get her up when she wants you. (She WILL let you know!)

Bug does this too. Sometimes she ends up not napping but if she's in her bed quiet for awhile she usually falls asleep. She talks about her life to herself...you can literally hear her telling the stories of her day... what you have to look forward to, just make sure you have a monitor handy!!!!
I think it is a good thing for them to have some down time like that. |

She is learning how to amuse herself! This is a very good thing. It's important for babies to do this... Be happy!

This is a wonderful thing! All three of our kids have been able to play in the crib until they fall asleep or until they are bored in the morning. Our friends have always thought it was neat that we didn't have to rock them to sleep at night~ although I do rock quite often for me more than for them!

I just read an article about something similar in one of my parenting mags. It pretty much said to thank your luck stars - lol, jk!
Seriously, it did say to enjoy your baby who can entertain him/herself and not to worry - it's just their disposition to be calm. And it did warn parents of easy going babies to be more aware of the amount of attention they give their children since their child doesn't demand a lot of it. I know you're not ignoring your child - but I thought that was an interesting article.

My DS does this too and has since he was small. I beleive that the babbling is a part of language development, They are practicing making different sounds.
It's not a problem at all IMO

...and even though she isn't sleeping, she is still getting rest, which is important, and may be all she needs.

That reminded me of when my middle daughter was a toddler. She was in her room supposedly napping and DH and I sat outside her door listening to her talk to her "friends". Suddenly it became quiet and we peeked in to find that she had emptied all her stuffed animals out of her wicker laundry basket and was curled up sleeping in there, it was the cutest thing. I wish I had taken a picture now because that was 10 years ago
