3 mo cutting a tooth?
I have a question for you experienced parents...
Can my 3 month old possibly be cutting a tooth? Here are the symptoms. He's started drooling like a slime machine last week. Had some low grade fever and the gum feels different on that spot. He chews and sucks on anything we'll give him. Then today out of the blue, a lady at church said she thought he was teething. Is it possible for a little guy this young?

I've read that some babies are *born* with a tooth or two, and end up having to have them pulled, I don't really remember why.. but I was relieved DD wasn't born with any.
I also read that they typically cut them as early as 4 months, but.. they can start the teething process weeks in advance. Some kids "teeth" for weeks while others don't have any symptoms at all and wake up with a tooth or two one day out of the blue. So.. yeah, I think your 3 month old could be starting already!! YIKES! |

Our son got his first tooth at 3mos 2 weeks old. All his teeth came in very early. He is 2 yrs 3 mos and has had all his teeth including 2 yr molars by 18mos.

When my dd was a baby I asked the doctor when the first teeth erupt and she said anywhere from 3-12 months. It's a big range, isn't it?

My H got her first 2 teeth the day she turned 4 months. So, yes, it is possible. She's 20mos know at has 12 teeth and is working on 4 more at the moment.

My older son's first tooth broke the skin at 3 months...so he had been cutting it for a while prior. So, absolutely, it is possible that your little one is teething.
I have a cousin that was actually born with 2 teeth...he didn't have to have them pulled though...I've never heard of that. My suggestion...buy some Hyland's Teething Tablets and give according to the directions. Wonderful stuff!

Very likely! My oldest son was born with one tooth and it had to be pulled because it was loose, he cut teeth normally at about age 4 months. My middle son was born with three teeth and they didn't pull any of them, he lost them when he was about 9 months and got new ones normally about 7 months! Our daughter was not born with any but got her first at 3 months 9 days.

Yes, they can get teeth that early. OUr daughter got her first one at 4 months. From what I have heard, getting them early means that they will also lose their baby teeth early too.

My son Daniel cut his first tooth at 3 months...a MOLAR! I was shocked. He didn't have any problems and the other teeth came in at "normal " times.

My son cut his first 2 teeth on his 3-month birthday. No one would believe me. He had all of his teeth at about 10 months.
Good luck. Hope your sweetie is not too cranky. Happy G'Ma |

My oldest started cutting teeth at 3 months, lost her first baby tooth at 3 years, and had all her adult teeth at 7 years. So, there was not a lot of time to mess up and learn from the baby teeth.

Is a very individual thing, with a big age spread even in the averages.
Personally, I've always thought teeth in babies a design flaw. I mean, really! Razor sharp protuberances right in there with all that baby-soft tissue. And the point would be...? What? They're going to need to chomp up a T-bone? I yacked about this in a blog a while back... <http://international.adoptionblogs.com/weblogs/teeth-or-lack-thereof> Good luck with the drool, by the way. Yipee. More liquids. |

Just because the baby teeth come in early, doesnt mean they are going to lose them early. my 2nd ds cut his first tooth at 3 mos and he didnt start losing them until late. Infact the dentist said that he and all of my other sons were very immature dental wise, which isnt a bad thing. If you think about how long you have your permanent teeth and all that they go thru over the yrs then it makes a little bit of sense to hang on to those baby teeth as long as possible. Not that we have any choice when we lose them, SHelley
