Should we register at Babies R Us Now????

Hi Ladies, We have been "waiting" for over a month, and I know the "Wait" could be a long one, or a sudden one... Would it be wise to register now as opposed to waiting. I know that things could be discontinued if it's a long wait, but I am so worried about that emergency placement. Plus,, I think it could help me know what I need....I am so scared to walk in tho ther store and actually do it. It just doesn't seem "Real" to me yet.....

I don't imagine I'll have a shower until well after the baby is home and all the papers have been signed -- maybe even until after the adoption is finalized. I can't imagine inviting people to a shower and accepting gifts from them only to have to give them all back and explain that the adoption failed. We live in a small town and most of my friends, while well-meaning, are somewhat gossipy, and I can't imagine answering the "what happened?" question fifty times. DH and I are going to purchase what we'll need right away, I guess, and then fill in later on as we decide we need something else.

But everyone has to do what's okay with them -- my opinion is definitely the minority.

Ours was an emergency placement and when we got he call, we owned 1 pack of onesees, one bag of diapers, one blue outfit and one pink outfit, and a car seat!! When she was born tiny, we rushed out the morning we picked her up for some preemie clothes......

My advice, GO SHOPPING NOW FOR UNISEX ITEMS! Now. Go now. Drop what you are doing and go now. Oh, and did I say go now!!?? Thank god for the family members that rushed over with supplies the night we came home......

Also realize that people will read your feelings, so be happy, and excited and know that it will happen soon. We told every TRU employee that we were adopting, and they were so excited for us. The woman who helped with our registry was an adoptive mom herself!! Now when we go in there - which has finally subsided - she makes a point of coming over to see us as she remembers us!!

Just my advice, but all three times we were considered were emergency placements. 3rd time was the charm!!

Best of luck!!
Mega

I forgot one other thing. Register now, we had no shower, felt the same way about not wanting on until we were home with baby, and then it never materialized anyway.... But people will shop for you for welcome home baby gifts, and they might as well know what you want and need. We ended up with pretty much all on our list before 6 weeks were over....... People are very very generous to new babies.... Best of luck again and keep your chin up - proclaim that you are adopting, I am a strong believer that attitude influences actions.....Mega
