I just finished watching Mom At Sixteen. It is a Lifetime original movie about the drama of a teenage pregnancy including the option of giving up her child. The revealing and emotional story shows the various sides of adoption. I have never seen a movie that showed the realities of an open domestic adoption in such a postive light. I just checked their website and couldn't find when it will be aired again. If anyone was able to watch it, I would love to know what you thought about it. I was feeding my 4 week adopted son and was glued to the set. It was such a wonderful and emotional ending which had me in tears. I was so touched by how they depicted both the birthmother and adopted parents at the end of the film. Thumbs up on this one.

Was this the one where the teacher adopted the baby? I know the name is familiar. I liked it, if it is the one.
I know I've seen it before. Just can't remember which one it was. |

I believe it is the one with the teacher. If so, I have also seen that one and loved it. I actually have watched it a few times. It is such a good depiction all around. It shows the stuggles of the birth family, the infertility trials, the joy of adopting, and the positives of open adoption. I would highly reccommend it to anyone adopting, especially for their families!

The movie had some parts (though not as many as usual
) that I didn't like due to language choice (which, again, was better than most) but it was the ending that made this movie a-okay in both my book and D's (amom). I watched it again when it was on this past week/weekend and enjoyed it the second time around. ![]()

Oh my gosh - if this is the one I think it was (the amom was played by the gal who used to be on Ally McBeal (no, not Callista "duckface" Flockhart, but another one w/ curly blonde hair), then I LOVED IT!
We saw it when our son was just a few weeks old and were BAWLING! at the end - the best part of the entire movie is when they're filming their son (for his first day of school?) and ask him about his bmom and why she thinks he's so special, and he says something about because he's the only one in the whole world who knows what the sound of her heart is like inside her body..... WARNING: Do NOT watch this unless you have a big box of tissues handy! (the lotion kind not recommended for crying....)

Definitely a good warning. And don't put the tissues away with five minutes left in the movie. You think the crying is over. But no. ![]()

I tried to see if you could download it off itunes but no luck. Yes, this is the flick that stars the Ally McBeal blonde.

I'm pretty sure that the movie is available on DVD, not sure about the price, though.
ETA - $14.99 at various movie retailers (it is paired with another Lifetime movie "Too Young to be a Dad")

Yes the movie is available on DVD.. You get mom at 16 and 2 young to be dad. I got mine on Amazon
I love the ending... I pray that our open adoption will be like that.. But I don't see it happening since our birthmom is so far away.. But I would love for it to be that way.. I just cry and cry everytime I watch it... I know excatly how the couple feels. We went through all kinds of infertility with nothing.. And also had a failed adoption.. It was so wonderful when the young mom handed over her son... TEAR JERKER!!! |

You can buy most Lifetime movies from the website or at a store like Target. Most of the movies are about 13.99

I really liked this movie too. I didn't like how her infertility/IVF was portrayed though. Nobody goes to the doctor for an ultrasound to find out if the IVF took or not. Hello, beta HCG? HPT? Otherwise, I thought it was a pretty well done movie. And I definitely bawled through of it!

I hated this movie, mostly for all the reasons that most of you liked it. Of course, I am a reunited birth mom, not an adoptive mom, so I suppose it isn't too surprising that I hated it so much.

Can I ask specifically what you didn't like about it (beyond it having some of the typical campy Lifetime moments)? DS's bmom loved it for the most part, as it showed people that it isn't easy for anyone or uncaring to place a child for adoption, that raising a child on your own or at a young age is a very difficult thing to do, and that the word "birthmother" was used instead of not referring to her at all. (yes, we know here that we should use such terms as "potnetial adoptive parent","expectant mother", "potential birthmother" or other variations, but for the typically uneducated-about-adoption population, getting into such technicalities would be too hard to follow) Both of us also liked that it showed how an open adoption can work and how that relationship/bond can not only stay there, but be okay. I don't know....they seemed to show the main character as a pretty smart, loving, and strong teenager.

I am on my way out the door, but, I suppose to me it showed the stereotypical happy ending for the birth mom. Guess, I don't believe that is the reality for most birth moms.
Plus, I was a mom at 16 myself - know it is hard. I also know that living with the experience of relinquishing a child is waaaay harder. The child I had at 16 is now a mom of 3, she's stable, educated and a great mom. It only makes it worse for me that the 16 year appeared that she could have handled being a mom. Guess it was sad for me knowing what she may have in store for the rest of her life - the loss of her child. Sorry, don't mean to be a downer - I understand why adoptive moms love happy presentations of adoption. My reality is different - I see adoption differently from my own personal experience - and the stories of birth moms and adoptees that I know.
