OT: What are your favorite children's books

My dh and I are starting a library for our future baby. What are the titles you loved as a child or love to read to your child?

Mine all-time favorite is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

Can't wait to hear yours.

Peace,
K

I love "Runaway Bunny" and " Good Night Moon" by Margaret Wise Brown. I love the ending in "Runaway Bunny", the little bunny finds out it best to stay at home with his "mommy". I love that book, I read it to my son at least once a week and at the end I always give him a big hug and a kiss.

Mine is Stellaluna - it's sort of an adoption story, too!

I also love The Kissing Hand - I'm sorry I don't know the authors off the top of my head.

Mine is The Crayon Box that Talked. I read it every night to DS.

It's about a box of crayons that doesn't get along b/c they're all "different colors". But then a little girl makes a picture with them and they realize what beauty they can make together.

Highly recommended!

My son's favorite book was called "Ask Mr. Bear" He also liked one called "where's my blanket" It's a lift the flap book with textures. Elmo's lift the flap one was fun too, it did letters, colors numbers and shapes.
The one that could make me cry was "just in case you ever wondered" (but it's is religious, so if that's not your thing, you'll want to skip that one) My second son's favorite was Dr. Suesses "hop on pop" he also liked others of his. Oh and "Brown Bear, Brown Bear"

ANYTHING by Sandra Boynton. She has her own website so you can google it. But seriously, if you have small kids, grab a book or two. For laughs, I suggest The Belly Button Book. And I don't just mean laughs for kids; laughs for ADULTS.

Love You Forever is a favorite.

I do childrens' book reviews on our website. We're a book nerd family.

Oh, and anything by Shel Silverstein as well though my favorite of HIS is The Missing Piece. Love.

Schmenna's right - those Sandra Boynton books are SO CUTE! Bee Bo, Schmenna!

I grew up on the Babar the Elephant books and have many for my son.

I LOVE THE GUESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU BOOK! I also have a 3 CD set which includes the author's reading of the book - if you hear it, you'll love it even more!!! (I'm a sucker for accents, and his is Scottish). I can hardly read it to A without getting tears in my eyes.....

Todd Parr has a great book It's Okay to be Different There's a one-page mention of adoption in a very natural way to talk about all the ways people and families can be different.

A teacher cousin of mine also introduced me to the Usborne Books. This line of books is sold through home parties and I think online. They have great educational things! The small child books are very sturdy and nice. our current favorite is That's Not My Dinosaur and is a touchy-feely book.

A's favorite book is Five Little Monkeys I only have to say those first 3 words and he starts laughing and smiling, even if he's been crying!

"Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" by Mo Willems is our fave. Recently, I took DS to meet Mo at a book reading and signing for his "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late" - he's such a cool author!

I also love:

Diary of a Worm
Stellaluna
Knuffle Bunny
And all of Shel Silverstein's

Yep! That's us! I'm a member of a children's book club. I'm that much of a book nerd. Nick loves his books.

Also, for the youngest set of book lovers, I'd suggest the new line of Taggie books. (Google "taggie blanket" or "taggie" in general.) Nick loves his Taggie blanket and when I got him the (cloth) Taggie book, he was also in love! He squishes it to his face, traces the animals with his finger and pats it. It doesn't have a "storyline" but he LOVES it. I figure if I can get him to love HOLDING a book, loving reading will come easier as he ages!
