Anyone adopt a Caucasian newborn semi-open?

Have any of you adopted a Caucasian newborn/infant through an agency? If so, how long did it take you? Tell me your experience.

We adopted a caucasian baby thru open adoption. We had our homestudy done in December of 2002, matched with birthmother in September 2003 and brought baby home in December 2003.

I know that you said adopt, but we haven't quite adopted yet. We are waiting to be matched with a birthfamily and are working with an open adoption agency. As you can see from my long, animated signature, we went in the books in July of 2005.
So far, my experiences have been good, just tedious at times. I mean the waiting has been tedious at times. I know it will all be worth it in the end though!

I'm really hoping that the wait isn't TOO much longer. It's very scary and exciting at the same time. I don't know anyone that had ever adopted before, so all this is so new to me and my family!

If you have any more specific questions pertaining to pre-adoption or the waiting, then I would love to share my experiences!
Good luck and hang in there!

We adopted our daughters through an agency. It was a semi-open situation, but became completely open after a year. We waited 12 months from first contact with the agency to placement of the babies. (Nine months from home study completion!)

Hi! We basically waited for 8 months....

Started process w/ agency and background checks 10/04.

Holidays delayed a few things, homestudy finished and we were approved and on the list 2/05.

A. was born and came home 10/05!!!!! Healthy baby boy!!!

We went through a private agency whose average wait for this child was stated as around 18 months (althought I think most placements were done within 12.) We were at least the 3rd couple to adopt from those who'd started around the same time!

At our agency, in almost all cases, the birthmoms choose the adoptive couple. PM me if you want any specifics!

We started the process in May 05 and were officially waiting in July 05. We matched in January 06 and are currently waiting for our baby to be born next month. So the total process time will be exactly one year for us.

Good luck

Hi,
We were approved in August of 2004 and our son was born April of 2005. He is also caucasion which was a big surprise to us since we were told it would take a long time. We are suppose to be semi - open but his birth mother seems to have closed it. Hopefully in the future she will come around.
Good Luck

We started Feb 05 and were officially waiting end of May 05. DD was born 3/6/06.. So 9 ish months for us, too.

We had had matches for other CC newborns, puerto rican newborn twins (who ended up going to the pbparents first choice--we were the second choice, original couple thought more about it after declining and changed their minds), and also matched with a phillipino newborn.

We had lots o' matches in our wait. We were open to race, we happened to end up with a CC born to a couple with similar coloring as us (one parent with red hair, one with brown.)

HTH

We waited approximately 2 years for our daughter. We met her birth parents at the hospital and will keep in touch through yearly letters and pictures.

Have not yet completed process. About 14 months from start to our current match. After about five months with our second agency we asked what we could do to improve our odds. Their answer: open up more to race. DH and I talked long and hard about the subject and chose to be open to other races. Two weeks later we were matched with a caucasian pbfamily.

The average

It kind of looks like the average wait time is around one year. Congrats to all of you!! We are willing to accept a C-latino mix or C-native american mix, so we hope that increases our odds! My husband has a very dark complextion with brown hair and I'm fair skin with red hair. HTH, that's so weird that you said one of you had red hair and the other brown and I saw the name Kaitlyn and that's the name we want if we get a girl....too weird!!!

Good luck to all of you!!
Thanks for the responses!

Our baby is Native American/Caucasian mix, and we're constantly told he looks like us. We turned in our paperwork to the agency in January, finished the homestudy in April last year, and he was born in September (so another ironic 9 months start to finish.) Ours is an open adoption and we finalized a couple of months ago.

We adopted through an agency here in Michigan (semi-open), homestudy finished October 2004, matched March 2005, baby home April 2005. 7 months from homestudy to sleepless nights!
