OT-changing girls' diapers

Okay, this is a really strange question. My friends and I somehow got into this discussion the other day and it was amazing how different everyones' opinions were! When you change a little girl's wet diaper, do you wipe her, or do you only wipe when she has a "dirty" diaper?

Ummm, not to be too personal, ( answer this question in your head, I don't want to know) When you go to the bathroom do YOU wipe every time, or only when you, ummm, go "big potty?" Urine is very strong and shouldn't sit on sensitive skin.

Just my opinion,

Absolutely wipe every time...we have a son, but 2 nieces and 2 great-nieces and my best friend's DD is one week older than my son so in my experience it has been wipe no matter what. Lol.

Always-HA! That was someone's comment when our group was having the discussion. We wipe everytime, so should they! It was about 50/50 of people that do wipe the girls every time and don't!!

Having twin girls, I've had a bit of experience with this. I always used a wet wipe on their little bums every time I changed them. Urine can be very irritating, as they both (now almost 5) realize if they don't wipe carefully after using the potty.

LOL! Great response. Even my very, very, very conservative mother-in-law advised me to take care of "all of the delicate folds" of my daughter's "diaper area".

Yes, it seems a little personal and maybe a little too close to home for comfort, but girls gotta be clean too.

Wipin'

For DD I always have, however the mom of the little girl we babysat last fall said "don't". She said it irritated her baby, baby did have diaper rash, don't know which caused which really. This baby did get a bath every night tho... I've always wondered what "most" people do.

I wipe every time. The amonia in the urine is very harsh and burning.

We did it every time with DD... our daughter was prone to UTi's because of a reflux condition, so we never let her sit in wet diapers and wiped her every time.

As the PP mentioned, kids who get diaper rashes from wipes generall do better with a "blotting" from a wet wash cloth or paper towel rather than wiping... it's less irritating.

Many moons ago when my daughter was a baby.. (she's 9 lol) I did wipe everytime.

She had very sensitive skin to wipes, too though... they had just come out with the huggies natural ones and they were great!

We only use the wipes when we travel, we use a clean washcloth with every change at home. Actually, two. A warm wet one (the cold ones are just mean.. lol) and a dry one to blot her with before putting her ointment on.

She gets wiped/washed every time we take the diaper off. And often, she'll pee just when we're done putting her ointment on, so we do it again before we put her clean diaper on.

Can't imagine her little bottom sitting in it any longer than she has to. I know, I'm a pushover. ;-)

Wiping is a must after urination. Urine is extremely irritating to the skin. The good news is that you can get away with using only one wipe for urine, in most cases, while you sometimes need to use several for bowel movements.

We wipe every time from front to back as to not get any urine in her private area as this can cause UTI's.

Yes, from front to back is the proper way to wipe for girls.
