Does anyone know if there are ever exceptions made regarding space requirements for a homestudy if the adoptive family is in the process of a move?

I am not sure what you mean?? Do you mean you are currently in a small space because you are in a transistion phase of moving??

Yes, exactly. We are in a two-bedroom home but will be moving to a three-bedroom. We are looking to adopt our fourth child.

Personally, I would wait until moved to begin the homestudy process, but usually that is the last part of it, you can fill out questionairre's while waiting which is usually the first part of it....are you working with an angecy? What do they say?

I worked for an agency and it was our policy that if a family was in a transition stage as for housing, the homestudy should wait until the move so as not to duplicate fire inspection efforts, etc. and that would warrant a homestudy update which is more expense. Talk to your agency and see what they recommend.

We also thought it made more sense to wait until after the move. However, the agency has a very limited number of families open to AA placements and so they have called us multiple times to consider different situations and I hate to say no if there is some way we can work around this. Thanks for all the good insight.

It depends on your state laws. I know of at least two where a baby can come home to a one-bedroom apartment. And many states allow children to share bedrooms with siblings -- especially siblings of the same gender and roughly similar age range -- if each child has a place for his/her own belongings, there is reasonable square footage, and so on.

Ask them, if the baby is co-sleeping with you that will but you some time probably until you move.
