Question Breastfeeding our adopted child

Hi All! My husband and I are in the process of adopting our first child. Our homestudy wraps up the first week of June, and we're hoping for a fast placement (we're doing transracial adoption, so our agency suggests that placement could happen fairly fast.)

I've been reading a lot about breastfeeding adopted children, and I was wondering if any of you have tried it. I would love to hear about your experiences -- the good, the bad, and the ugly!
Thanks!

We've recently had a thread on this topic:
Amoms who breastfed - need advice

I have done it...never produced any milk (I'm on hrt due to a complete hysterectomy), but the bonding was fabulous! You can pm me, or any of the other ladies who've tried it for info on where to buy what.

Hope your wait is short!

Talking Best of Luck!

My kids were too old to breastfeed, but I would have had I adopted a baby. I know that La Leche League gives support to adoptive mothers who breastfeed, so you may want to look into it. I think from the standpoint of attachment it is one of the best things you can do.

I just wanted to tell you that I think it is awesome that you are planning to do it and I wish you all the luck in the world!

Still nursing my last "baby" (she is two and a half) and successfully nursed her older brother for just over three years. Ask Away!

I'm inducing right now for our baby that is due to be born at any minute. Log on to my journal here and you can read about it and there are some links to some very helpful sites. Feel free to PM me or email me if you have any questions.

Yesterday Pbmom's friend came to our home with her 4-month-old son and when he cried I started to leak! Yeah.... it's working. I've enduced twice before and gotten milk both times but this time it's working even before I started pumping.
