I'm hoping people can give me their experience with a baby born to a bmom who was under methadone treatment during the pregnancy. From what I can find, it seems like the children turn out just fine, but that there can be a long withdrawal period after birth. Did the baby have to stay in the hospital? Were medications needed to ease the withdrawal? What was the withdrawal period like? How are they doing now? Thanks.

My son was born to a mother on methadone. He was two months premature. He was the healthiest little preemie. No withdraws and no apparent affects from methadone or other drugs. He was never any diffrent than other preemies not exposed. He is only two months old but is doing great.

While I don't have personal experience, I know a mom who adopted two babies exposed to both heroin and methadone. Both were in the hospital a week, or so and on methadone for about 3 months I believe. Both are doing well and on track.
