Amoms who breastfed - need advice

We've been matched with an Emom due mid-June. I would like to BF and do so without drugs. I've read about goats rue and mothers milk plus and would probably go that route. Anyone else do this?

Also, I need a number for a lac consultant familiar with adoptive bfing in los angeles area. Anyone? Please write here, if appropriate or PM me.

Thanks so much!

Deborah

A great place to go is the Adoptive breastfeeding forum here on the boards. http://forums.adoption.com/forumdisplay.php?f=506
There is a ton of great info to see there.
Good Luck!!

I tried the natural way first as I hate meds and got no where. I added the domperidone and was pumping ounces within 2 days. I am glad I did because I got Drihan within 2 weeks and had a good supply for her. I felt the Dom. was safe according to my midwife and her getting the breastmilk was more important to me. Just my experience. You can add fenugreek after you start getting milk for better production. You can also use a SNS if you aren't producing a lot by then.

Pm me if you want some links to some other lactation web sites. Also, I know of two great Lac consultants in the LA area who also own a store that has a ton of breastfeeding supplies. I took a class they gave and they are awesome.

There's a great yahoo group that someone started with contacts from this site. They've been very helpful, informative, and supportive. They offer many creative ideas for any issues that come up. Let me know if you want the link... it may be in the bfeeding section on this site.

Good luck with all of this! I am a supporter.. I know it's not for everyone, but I think it is an amazing opportunity for bonding and immunities. Best wishes!

You can find a search for lactation consultants here: http://gotwww.net/ilca/ and they can probably guide you to someone who specializes in inducing lactation. Good luck!

Melissa =)
