I am matched and anxiously awaiting the birth of a baby girl! I am trying to be realistic, but I am beyond excited, and can't wait to carry the baby in a sling, which I did not do with my son. I have been looking online and like the pouch slings. I am trying to decide between the hotsling, the peanut shell, and new native slings. Anyone have any recommendations on a good pouch-type sling?

I read a great review here about the peanut shell, so I bought one. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to use it yet, but it seems pretty easy.
If you try searching, you might find a LONG thread that was discussed in the last few months, with pics of babies in their carriers. I think "peanut shell" is in the title of the thread. edited to add: I just found it and bumped it up for you... the search tool here isn't always that effective. Took me three tries to find it. Good luck, D.

I have a Maya wrap and a hot sling from the peppermint web site. I don't think we can post links her so you'll have to google. I've only tested them with my dog, but I can't wait to put our baby boy in one ASAP.
DH asked me about bringing as stroller when we got to pick him up. I said no way, I've got my sling and I'm not putting this baby down! |

I've got a maya wrap which came higly recommended, but have not mastered it--poor baby thinks i'm trying to do him in. I really want to use it for the bondong and hands free ability.

I have several slings, but my all-around favorite is the Maya adjustable pouch (different from the wrap). It doesn't have the tail hanging down (which I personally am not a fan of
), easy to adjust, great weight, even DH used it once or twice! It even comes with an instructional DVD. I've been approached several times while using it....can't say enough good things about it!(Many color choices available and several ways to use from newborn to toddler)

We use the NOJO still and Drihan is 1 yr. old. I am going to get a Mei Tai so I can carry her on my back too. The sling was awesome while I breastfed her for the first 9 mo.

Rose - you're cracking me up! I am practically rolling on the floor thinking what our smallest dog would have done had I tried to smush him into my carrier.
What a good idea, though. It's one thing to test w/ a stuffed animal. Trying to do it with a squirming, wriggling little one is very different! I wish I'd had the peanut shell.

I never used a sling with my boys ... but I am now half time parenting a 12 week old baby girl and I had a friend make me a sling (to do attachment parenting with her while she is with me). I LOVE IT. Mine looks like the one the dad is wearing above. Baby loves it -- she will sleep through anything with it and I can do most things around the house -including chasing around the 4 boys.
I know that with my boys I wanted them to sleep in their cribs at this age, but with her - I spoil her and love the cuddles, so I am using the sling. let me say again - I LOVE IT ![]() Jen

If you sew AT ALL, look up a sling pattern on the net. The peanut type ones are really, really easy to make. It's also MUCH cheaper to make one yourself, and you get to pick whatever cool fabric you want!
I have lots of time on my hands while I wait to be matched, and I just can't stand sitting around, doing nothing. I've already whipped up slings in two different sizes. Luckily, I have a friend who allows me to borrow her son as my practice baby, so no animals were harmed in the production of my slings. |

I have also heard that you can use a bag of sugar / flour to practice having weight in the sling and see if it bothers your back. Just a thought I heard somewhere.

My Chihuahua has made the ride in all my slings around the house. The dachshund loves the Maya wrap. The other one, milkmama pouch sling isn't as comfortable for him as it is for the chihuahua! LOL

We have an Infantino Sling and love it. DD is now almost 14 pounds and when she needs to calm down or is asleep and I need to move around, like shopping alone at Costco, it's so perfect. Just had to add a different idea! susan
