Failed FBI check - appeal process?
What a day! We've been matched with a sweet, 12 year old, met her several times, even have the room painted hot pink, and now the FBI check has been judged unsatisfactory because of a fight my husband had 18 years ago in college!
Our agency says it happens, usually an appeal is granted, but I was wondering how long the process takes. Has anyone had similiar experiences? |

We had to have our fingerprints run through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (I think it was them), but I didn't know the FBI got involved with adoption. I'll watch this thread to learn more...
I wish you good luck in sorting this out. There should be a statute of limitation on some things!

What a mess!
The adoption agency told us my husband came back "unsatisfactory" - turns out to be wrong! We've been freaking out for nothing! They just needed the court documents, no biggie, and we'd been sad all weekend.

a lot of people can adopt with a "record" it usually depend on the type of offense, it doesn't seem like your husband's offense is remotely relative to adopting, they usually look at issues dealing with minors and domestic violence (I'm sure other biggies would cause red flags too). My husband had a few things on his record from his wayword youth but it was clean for like 20 years and none of it reflected on his ability to parent, just his judgement as a young adult

DH had issues and was unsatisfactoy. We were told b/c it was so long ago it should be overturned in and appeal. Turns out the charge was supposed to be invisible under the First Offender's Act. I called the Office of Regulatory Services directly and worked through it with them.
