Thank you so much Red...it is a great responsibility that unfortunately some take lightly.

I cannot imagine the responsiblity really! When I worked in residential, I, of course, worked very very closely with nurses, two shifts (am and evening) who had to give the kids so many medications each med time, anticonvulsants, ADHD meds, heart meds, GI meds). I had such a respect for the enormity of it all, the huge responsibility. Even with doctors, I wonder, if eventually, people will understandably cease going to medical school. There are many faster ways to make so much more money, easier, (like attorney or actuary). Education is enormous, responsibility is enormous, stress is high and liability insurance is ridiculous. Medicine is full of miracles, but people have to be self advocates too, have to practice preventative medicine. It is so daunting.

It's the truth. We have some great young residents at our hospital - very hopeful.

Now my brainless mommy moment; it was not a funny one. I never really had any with dd, aside from the trying to drive away with her strapped in the car but the stroller still in the parking lot type of stuff. I bought infant Tylenol many many months back. Apparently I, who I reiterate is very conscientious, looked at the label, grabbed it and bought. I put it away and many many months passed until B was sick for the first time. It was his first time to get Tylenol; he had a fever. I took it out, glanced at the box and bottle, took protective cover off, double checked appropriate doseage from my copy from doctor, load the dropper, thought to myself, huh, the top is different; they must have changed it then gave him the Tylenol.
I immediately looked at the bottle again and freaked out. You know the infant bottle is small and in small print, on the front, it read with Decongestant. B has WPW, and decongestant can cause tachycardia or irregular heart beat. I called our ped cardiologist. He was in with a patient. I called our ped. Her office took a message. I stood there for a moment, wondering what I should do. Just then, Dr. called; he is a jolly man, funny with a great sense of humor (told my dd when she was 2 that he would like to give her a job), who wanted to be an opera singer; ped cardiology was his second choice. He said, Red (not really, used my first name) I understand you gave B. . . (he then made a joke, burst into laughter; I was horrified and found zero humor in it.) He assured me not to worry, not to induce vomiting and to take pulse every 20 minutes and call him if it increased. I felt so stupid. The poor nurse. I have so much empathy for that. I cannot imagine how hard it is for her.
