Question a new homestudy for each adoption?

Does a homestudy "expire"?

If you're adopting in another state do you get the homestudy done by someone in the state you reside in or the state you're adopting from?

Thanks!

I know that in NE we have to have an updated HS done every year while you wait. Not so much the interviews and such, but the financial forms and fingerprints and background checks. So I am sure that if more than a year or more passes inbetween your adoptions you would have to have a new HS.

Homestudies

We live in NH and our homestudy had to be done in our home state by a licensed agency here regardless of where the baby was born.

Also the one-year expiration applies here too HOWEVER every time you do an adoption, you need a new homestudy so even if we decided to adopt within a year of when our homestudy was done, since we had added a new baby, we would have had to do another. It is an abbreviated version though.

Good Luck!!!!

In OH, the HS is good for 2 yrs. However, we ended up adopting from KS, so we had to get an addendum to our HS which basically stated we were still of "sound mind", finances in order, etc.

It really all depends on where you'll be adopting from. Maybe you could share that info, and then others could be more specific?

I know I asked here in CA and she said that she had to come for each adoption. No matter how close...I was frustrated because ours was really expensive when we did most of the work, forms and such, even filled out the court paperwork and all she did was talk to us for an hour. AGGGH!

Time Frames

Home Studies (original/initial ones) are good for one or two years depending on the state you are in and are updated as needed. They must be performed and certified by a licensed agency in the state you reside in (they will be performing the post-placement services/reports for the courts). Updates are performed either at the expiration time frame if you do not have a placement or at the start of additional placements as they must now incoporate any changes (child/ren you have adopted, change in residence, change in jobs, etc. etc.).

Hope this helps!

Our homestudy is good for a year, but each adoption requires a new homestudy to update our family situation.

We reside in Texas and it would be a private adoption from Iowa.

We adopted privately in Texas, from Texas, three years ago.

Thank you all for your help! Much appreciated!

Are you working with an agy or an atty? They would have more info for you.

I would think but I'm no adoption professional, that you'd have to do your HS in TX.

But like I said, with our situation, we had a HS in OH (where we live) but adopted from KS, so we had to have an addendum done. It was actually quite nervewracking b/c we were already in KS when we found this out!

a domestic adoption homestudy whoudl be good for a year in all states. That being said, our state didn't require a few things that the state we adopted from did require, so after we were matched and all that we talked to our lawyer in that state (Kansas) and got the things we needed, like medical records. After the first homestudy you can get an updated homestudy annually, or update your homestudy if you go international.

I think ours is good for a year as well. We actually live in NH and are adopting locally but are having a VT agency do ours. I guess they can here in certain counties.
Good luck!

I know in Iowa our homestudys need to be updated every year and as far as I know as long as we have current one we can adopt from any state or international
