I have used Playtex and Gerber. I didn't seem to have any problems.

We used about three different kinds (including the touted Avent and Dr. Brown's) but what ended up working for us was Parent's Choice. I was frustrated with how he hated the bottles (expensive to boot) we had and went to the store (Walmart), bought a set of cheap bottles, went home... and never changed.

Now I don't know what to do...............DD has never spit up a day in her 3 1/2 week life.....until tonight. We've been using dr browns and after she calmed down enough from her colicky frenzy, she had 2 ounces, burped then about a minute later it all came out her nose and mouth!!?? Maybe I should try some of the good ole cheapies.

every baby spits up for whatever reason. some, like my daughter, did it hourly, or so it seemed, esp if I was trying to get to work. Maybe your daughter may have consumed it too quickly?

anyway, posted on the older thread, but dr.browns worked for us after trying avent, then playtex, etc. worth the extra money and work cleaning them.

DS has severe reflux due to surgery two days after birth. We tried them all - and then finally did Dr. Brown's as a last resort (I was hesitant because of all of the parts).

My only regret now is not using them FIRST. Oh my gosh - what a difference they made! The extra parts are so worth it! I've actually gotten super fast at disassembling and loading them in the dishwasher these days.

We've finally gotten DS on a reflux med that works! He was soaking about 8 bibs and 8 burp cloths a day. Poor 'lil guy.

Nick, even with his tried and true bottles, will spit up on occasion. (Seriously, we're blessed in this area.) If he's overly hungry, he may (or may not) spit up because he will gulp it. If he's overtired when the feeding begins, he is more likely to spit up. If he burps once and I think he's done... and he's not... and we attempt to play at that point? Oh yeah, spit up.

Don't necessarily freak out because of one spit-up spree. If you see a habit forming, consider a change in bottle. If it continues over a few different bottle changes, talk to your doctor about the possibility of needing to change formula. Also, if she's acting colicky, try giving her some mylicon (spelling...eek) drops. Those helped Nick around 3.5 weeks.

And give her extra hugs.

i had all the paraphanalia for the
avent systems...disposable AND reusable,
and
the playtex disposable system.
i was READY to go!
as this was not my first child i was feeling quite confident that of the 3 tops one would work and make our little one happy and content!
one week in GC,
and
a trip to the local Tarxxx later, our little one is ALSO quite an mistakeable fan of those cheepy gerber bottles!

cris...who did try time and again to get her to take those more 'fashionable' bottles but, a kid knows what she likes! LOL!

We're using Avent and found right away that a KEY is having the right nipples. Makes a huge difference! susan

Evenflo glass bottles with the Gerber Nuk nipple is what I use. No gas problems at all. Baby is fat and happy at 12 pounds at 2 months of age.

When DD was little we bought several different Avent nipples with different flows... had from friends that they were "the best." We tried and tried but decided our DD just didn't like the bottle.

Once we were out and I needed a bottle as I didn't have one in diaper bag. Just bought the cheap Gerber ones and DD LOVED it. Drank 4 oz bottle probably in about 1 minute. (It was taking about 10 minutes...) Needless to say, we stayed with the Gerber cheap bottles... like many others, they just worked the best.

We SWEAR by our bottles. My niece who was crazy colickly did very well on them, so I started out w/ them and never switched. Our baby rarely spits up and only seemed bothered by gas a few times during growth spurts.

We use the PLaytex Ventaire. I love them because they're easy to clean. There are soft discs with tiny holes in the bottom to allow the air to escape. They're easy to take apart and clean, and I don't worry about not reaching all the parts with a bottle brush.

We also burped after every ounce for a long time, which helped w/ gas. Now we just burp once a bottle usually. At 5 months old, I think his digestive system is caught up w/ the rest of him!

We also love Gerber. They hold 9 oz so you can fit 8 oz water & powdered formula in there, unlike a lot of other bottles. Also think their replacement nipples are the best - slow flow only.
