I can not believe that I have gained 25lbs since adoting our baby. My husband to has packed on a few pounds. I am thinking that it is due to our happiness we eat when we are happy. So I was wondering if any other adoptive moms gained weight after adopting their baby.I am still very happy but for the last 4 weeks have been trying to eat better I have P.C.O.S. and I 'm watching my carbs and sugar intake and walking 2 to 3 miles a day and have only lost 2 little pounds. Well anyone else in the same boat???

Pinkheart! I'm not at the adopted phase yet, still waiting, but I have gained 25 pounds with this process over the last year!
DH's sister came by this weekend and said something. She wasn't mean, it's just how his family is. And she said to me that after we are placed I can get started on losing that baby weight! LOL! It struck me funny. Maybe it's a sympathetic pregnancy? I think really, it's that I've been so consumed with the adoption, exercise isn't such a priority right now. I feel so out of control, all I can do is sit by the phone and go online and chat with fellow adoption triad members. Sigh. I'm there with you. |

I think part is probably the stress associated with adoption and then you add to it the change in lifestyle-hard to exercise with a new baby, esp in the winter time, and -boom!- you have weight gain. I've gained about 10 lbs I'd guess (no scale-not that interested in quantifying it
). oh and the feeding of dd real food-means we all eat frequently, more frequently than we should, lol.

I have the cure--breastfeeding. I have been eating like a horse and I have not been to the gym in the 6 mos since our baby arrived---but I am holding steady due to bfeeding.

No, I lost 10 pounds the first year I was a mom, and another 10 the second year. I eat less when stressed (or maybe I work too hard to keep any weight on -- lifting "weights" and all
I'd better come up with a solution cause I don't have another 10 to lose!

pink, you are funny! Is it alright if I blame the Venti iced mocha with whipped cream that I have everyday, with 5000 calories? A three year old who has always slept very little and a 14 month old means this gal has HAD to have years of caffeine, and you know, caffeine isn't so much fun without the fat and sugar.

LOL...I keep telling everyone that I gained 25lbs in Hannah's honor. Now that she's almost 5, I'm getting serious about doing something about it.

Count me in!!!! I'm a good 10-15 lbs. heavier than I was at this time last year when I had no idea that DD was on her way! As someone else said, I think it's just happiness. I used to be obsessed about my weight and now it's just not that big of a deal to me. I would rather obsess about DD and how cute she is! I am trying to lose the weight though because swimsuit season is just around the corner!

before....during.... and after...... It seems I ate more and exercised less before we were matched and during the wait after due to stress. Then after we brought Brady home, all I wanted to do was sit and hold him, so no exercise there either.
Some days it upsets me that I've let myself gain a few pounds, but other days I'm glad I enjoyed those long days when he was a newborn holding him constantly.Kim |

I gained weight too. I don't know exactly how much- I've quit weighing myself! Probably 15 pounds though - I'm only 5 feet tall so on me that's a lot. I know that I've lost weight since the beginning of the year. I got serious about it (when yet another pant size bigger loomed) in October, but gained back in December (go figure). It's going back down now, and I figure in about 5 pounds I'll start weighing myself again (I have a pretty realistic estimate - last time I checked I was off by a pound).
I know *why* I gained wieght - cheese and crackers are a quick, easy meal when you are exhausted (and I LOOOOOOOVE cheese). And, I went from working out way above "normal" levels to pretty much not at all. So now....sigh....I'm really watching what I'm eating. 3 year olds help that, if I'm eating it they want it - my portions have definately gone down! And, I'm signing up for a race to get my working out motivation kicked back in.

Yes, my husband and I have definately packed on the pounds! I have gained about 25 pounds and I feel miserable. I thought for sure we would lose weight chasing a toddler, but to no avail...

I've definitely gained post-adoptive baby weight, but only once my son hit toddlerhood. When he first arrived, the change in our lives, lack of sleep, and lack of time kept us from eating...and we lost some weight. But, once ds started eating solid foods, that was it. Now I find myself eating things he doesn't finish or eating the same things he does out of convenience...not a good habit.
It really is a a pain to fix two different meals, though. Let's face it, grilled cheese and baked chicken nuggets may be okay for toddlers, but play havoc on adult waistlines. |

I've always been thin until now. I've gained 15 pounds during the planning, waiting stage and hope I lose it when our daughter comes home! Stress leads to hormonal changes which leads to wait gain . . .
I swear I'm going to gain more with this baby than with my bio. Ugh. Red- I drink my coffee black, but my doctor is making me quit. So now I'm worried that without the caffeine I'll gain even more weight. But 5000? For real?! And you know how they say you lose a tooth with every pregnancy? (doubt that that's true anymore) I've been so stressed I've been grinding my teeth - ground away the surface of 3 with this kiddo. Ah well, off to the dentist. |

My oldest is 7 I gained weight the moment we started the process. Never lost it. Our little one is almost 5, gained weight during that one too and never lost it. We are now in training classes for foster/adopt and I am so worried about gaining more weight. I eat when I am stressed, happy, worried, basically all the time. You are not alone!
