I think I was fine til dd came home, then I wasn't able to take much exercise. dd hated the stroller, I mean really hated it and just screamed. Because she had colic, she hated being put down, so I had to carry her everwhere. between that and working, it was really hard to do my yoga or bike like before (I did 45min to an hour each day). I'm just at the point where I can actually begin exercising, though dd clings to me something fierce when she's awake. anyhoo, I've seen myself in photos and I'm not amused, lol. So I've got a few months to resume exercise til the next baby arrives- and s/he better not be colicky

Glad to see I'm not alone with the weight .....
I am glad to read that I am not the only one to have added to my pant size since adopting our sweet baby. I really hope to lose this weight I am exercising but I think my hormones due to P.C.O.S. are messed up. I really should get it checked. Well best wishes to all and I hope that I will not have to update to say I haved gained more weight . Thanks for the postings.

Since bringing home a baby 5 weeks ago, I have lost 5 lbs. I tend to eat more when I am bored or depressed -- and neither applies now!

Ack!!
You guys are freaking me out! I've already been saying that I'm going to gain 150 pounds when I move back to the US and can have non-African food again. If I move back to the US AND gain weight from being a new mom (hopefully the timing on the baby and the move will correspond), I'm in big trouble!

I lost weight cuz I would forget to eat, especially since my son had a health crisis when he was 8 days old and we had to call 911 and he was in the hospital for 4 days. Eating Subway sandwhiches only really does make you lose weight!
So Im focusing on gaining weight actually...and enjoying the eating part of it. ![]() |

I too gained weight after we got our son. I think it was because we were home more and didn't have as much time to cook, so we would eat out a lot. I have started a diet program and have lost over 18 pounds in 5 weeks, so I'm feeling a lot better!

Well....
...I already had weight issues before, but I actually lost weight while I was home with my daughter.
I gained once I went back to work, with all the stress, less time to exercise, and 'convenience' foods.... |

I lost 10 pounds in the week and half before our daughter was born. I was to busy and nervous to eat, running around finishing paperwork, meetings with the lawyer and doing the nursery then when the baby came there was 4 days with no sleep fidgeting in our birthmothers town. After bringing home our daughter the 10 pounds came right back plus another 15 from not watching my diet no longer cooking meals just grabing what was there because of no sleep dealing with colic and her lung disease condition keeping her on oxygen.
I am finally back on track and almost at my pre adoption weight now that I have time to excersise and cook my meals plus the excercise of lifting and carrying around my ever growing bundle - my arms have never looked better! Michelle |

I was on serious campaign for a smaller a$$ that was really showing results just before Miranda came. I had lost 35 lbs on my way to my weight loss goal of 50 lbs. Miranda came and in 18 months I gained back 25 lbs
. What does it for me is the lack of time for myself and the stress. I eat when stressed and my cmomfort foods are fried (guess you can take the girl out of GA but you can't take the GA out of the girl). That combinded with the fact that I pretty much stopped excercising because I was so sleep deprived in the ams and voila! Bigger butt. With lent coming I will ry to get my oversized butt in gear and try to get it off by June. My 20th wedding aniversery is in June and I want to look ficity-foine in some scadalous evening own for the ocassion. lisa |

Here is how my story goes...
I had lost 25 pounds on weight watchers during the early adoption process. ![]() During the tough months of foster license approval and wating to be matched I put it back on! ![]() Then, during the first week the kids lived with us, I was running around a lot, chasing them and didn't have time to eat...so I lost 10 lbs! I thought having two toddlers was the best diet ever! ![]() Then, two months later, I dealt with post adoption depression, and those ten pounds came back with an vengeance and brought ten more little friends with them! ![]() So...yeah...time to crack down and lose the weight! Ugghhhhhh! ![]()

My baby isn't here yet, HOWEVER, I do have one bio daughter and I did gain weight after she was born... I had only gained 16 lbs with the pregnancy, lost it right away, then gained it back right away. I think it's because I was not used to staying home and would hit the fridge and pantry when I got bored... BFing didn't seem to help-- I still gained weight!
Since then I have lost a significant amount of weight (80lbs-- but it's taken 2 years...) (obviously I was signficantly overweight to begin with!) I have found that the best way to handle the stress is to go to the gym and work out REALLY hard. It's a great outlet for me. Even though I don't like to, I go REALLY early in the morning so that I don't have to disrupt the schedules of my DH and DD. It gets my day off to a great start and I feel good knowing it's already done. I used to HATE exercise. I mean HATE it. But the more I made myself do it, the more I love it. My hypothesis is that if you can get through the first 8 weeks, you will be hooked. |
