How long..
How long of a wait did you endure before you were matched? Were you going through a facilitator, private attorney, or agency?

We matched fairly quickly using a referral agency for our first adoption and the one we are working on now. But it varies widely depending on how open you are to other races and other factors that make each adoption unique. Good luck and I hope your wait isn't too long.

Is a referral agency the same as a facilitator?

we had a facilitator do the match and our wait was about 4 weeks from end of homestudy to match, and less than half a week from match til birth (dd surprised us all by appearing a tad early, lol).
however, we're african american seeking and aa child, and I understand that on average our wait times are very short. we also have no other children. during our 4 week wait for a match we were presented with a number of other situations, and for a number of reasons declined to pursue them. because of the large number of variables, it's hard to say what the average wait will be.

Referral agencies general network situations for attorneys or law firms that they don't have a suitable adoptive family for. They generally don't have direct contact w/the potential birth parents. They earn their money by connecting adoptive parents w/ the agency/attorney that has the situation. Facilitators are individuals whose business involves connecting birth parents and prospective adoptive parents for a fee (only allowed in a few States).

OUr wait from application to placement was 2 months. THe homestudy was completed after the baby was born but literally hours before placement. We are CC and were hoping and AA or briracial boy (we did not specify boy). We had one bio child already. We were very open on bmom expenses and drugs also. I think it was the one time in life we were very lucky.

We just recently matched and our waiting time was 7 months and we have another 3 and a half months until the baby is born. We used an agency and a facilitator, however our match came through neither. It was a situation we stumbled onto through a friend of a friend. Good luck with your wait!

We waited 12 months from initial contact with our agency to the twins' birth. We were matched two weeks before they were born. In the process, though, we had a failed placement three months after contacting the agency...our homestudy wasn't even done yet.

We were matched with our baby and brought her home within 2 weeks of signing with agency. However it varies as we put in only for an AA/biracial baby.

We connected with our son's bparents 4 months after we started networking. He was born 7 months later. We used a licensed agency. Facilitators are illegal in our state.
I'd suggest doing your own personal networking in addition to agency efforts - this is how we connected, as have many of our friends. It can be as simple as putting a flyer up in your car window, leaving business cards in public places, or as elaborate as placing newspaper ads and posting a web page in online directories. Hello. We were matched four months from our very first call to our agency, two months from our homestudy being offically approved (we were presented to pbmom before approval). Once we were matched our baby boy was born two days later. In the four months we were presented to 5 pbmoms. 3 changed their mind before selecting a family. 1 decided to parent a week after we were matched. And the fifth time was the charm. We are CC and adopted AA.

We used a facilitator that also functions a bit as an agency. It's different. We signed on in May, finished our paperwork in July, and got our first call in September. We couldn't even consider it because our homestudy was nowhere near finished. We got another call in late September and missed out again when the mom went into labor early. We actually matched the day after we completed our homestudy, October 17.
Hope this helps!

Agency -- short waits
We went through a wonderful agency in Denver.
From the time we turned in the profile, we wanted 1 week for DD. Two years later, we waited 6 months for DS.
