In desperate need of a BUMBO seat!

My baby needs a Bumbo seat! The problem is they are very very expensive and he will get little use of it as he is very big for his age. Anyone out there willing to part with one let me know. M has Positional plagiocephaly which in simple terms is ..... severe flat head! If this does not get corrected soon he will need a helmet and I am trying to avoid that at all costs. If I have to I will buy one new but I figured I would ask here 1st since I know they do not get used for very long. Please PM me.
Thanks
Amy

Hi Amy,

There are several used ones available on eBay.
Just go to eBay and type "bumbo seat" into the search field.

I was looking on Ebay to see what a Bumbo seat was, and read that in some states, it is considered a medical device. Have you tried to see if fs's medical will pick it up? Or could call his caseworker and see about being reimbursed?

You could call around to your local consignment stores. Target sells them.

Your local FAPA may have a clothing/used items bin; also look for private agencies such as Exchange Club, etc., that have parenting support groups.

How much daily time does he spend in a car seat? The best, best, best carrier for a baby out of the car is a sling. Excellent for attachment parenting, too--you can't get any more attached! My daughter rode in hers easily through age 3--up to 40 lbs. You just change their position as they grow. Front, back, sideways, lying, sitting, etc. I liked the Over the Shoulder Baby Holder style better than NoJo, and the Mayan type (long piece of woven cloth; very beautiful but I liked the pocketing and "bumpers" of the OTSBH better).

Good luck!

Hadley thanks for the suggestion I am a baby wearer. it is becaue he is such a good sleeper and sleeps long hours at a stretch that this is a problem and I can only get so much done with him on my hip and the Dr wants me to break up his sleeping into blocks so he will be awake more often during the day. Unfortunatly since he is not an only child I do have other children to attend to and he needs something he can be seated in that does not put pressure on his little head.

Alternate ideas......

If he doesn't need it for any sort of spinal correction.....two boppies (or one if he has some ability to sit up independently) would do the same thing. The U-shaped pillows can be found in kids resale shops and thrift stores for under $5 each. Seat him in one boppy and put the second boppy going the opposite way forming a circle around him.

You might also be able to use a sling or wrap to secure him in a booster seat or children's chair. I know sleepingbaby has a free pattern to make something similar.

I still don't understand what a Bumbo seat is. Is it just something to help kids sit up on their own?
