Question OT - Cell Phone Advice

OK...this is in no way adoption related, but I need advice.

I'm not much of a cell phone person, but caved two years ago and got one. Our 2 year contract ends in April. I like our company and plan to renew with them.

Should I renew now, or wait until April? Is there an advantage to either one?

Thank you!!!

I would call now and see if there are any good reasons for getting into another contract. Usually if the contract expires, then you just keep on paying month-to-month. If you are willing to get into another contract, sometimes the rates are better/there's something free/you can upgrade to a better phone, etc. (my husband used to be in cellular sales, so this is what he tells me)

Random Example:

We were under contract for our DSL for a year at an intro price. The intro price expired, the service fee went up--we didn't really think about it. Then I called about something, and randomly asked if they had any "deals" happening....and by entering a new 1 yr contract, we are saving $30 a month! Yes, $30 a month!!! So it never hurts to ask.

The only down side to a contract is that if you break it, there are usually fees. But if you're happy with the service, I'd say go for it!

Thank you!

McNally720,

Thanks for the advice. That is kind of what I figured. I need to look into it. I used to think people were nuts for trading up their phones every year or two, but mine is falling apart! I really could use a new one!

Thanks again!

We like our phone and it's held up very well for five years, and we like our calling plan. So we just went month to month as McNally suggested. But, we do have to option of keeping our same plan and getting a new phone, so you could do that too if you like your plan. It costs a small amount of money for the new phone and I think you have to sign a one year contract for your same plan, something like that anyway. For us it's a better idea, there is no plan that does as much as our does now for as little money, even the cell phone guys admit they can't justify selling us something else.

Happy shopping
