Bottle Preference
We are just 3 days home with our new son Zackary and finding it difficult to find a bottle that doesn't leak, flow to fast, flow to slow.
We've tried EvenFlo Newborn, Playt Vent, Parent Choice and they all seem to have their flaws. A little part of me thinks it's because he's only 12 days, but he's wearing more than he drinks. HELP!

I've heard Doc Brown's are great, but I have no experience with them. I just bought some for the next baby.

LOVED the Dr. Brown bottles! I used the plain old bottles with my first two and they were fine but these are wonderful at keeping excess air out of the tummy. The only drawback is they are hard to clean.

Yep...we use Dr. Brown bottles...they are wonderful to use, even with rice cereal (just use the "Y" cut nipples). The only drawback is they are a *little* more involved to clean, but it's not bad.

We used Avent. In the beginning we had problems with leaking because we were screwing the lids on too tight, but once we figured that out, they were great!

when I asked this question almost two years ago, I was told by many to try the dr browns and we did. so I'm now one of those converts who is in love with Dr. browns. I won't use anything else with the next kid

You need Gerber's Nuk slow flow nipples. They are a lifesaver! The nipple is shaped to the babys mouth better, shorter and wider as opposed to long and narrow. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE those nipples...and so does my infant They have a vent hole and when you feed the baby the hole should be facing the ceiling not the floor. He will appreciate being able to drink his formula easier. BTW never give a newborn nipples like medium flow or fast flow. It has to be slow flow til they are 6 months old. You want to prevent choking and encourage them to use proper sucking. |

Adrienne, While you should never give a medium or fast flow nipple to a newborn, most babes graduate to a much faster nipple long before six months. My son, a 5 lb babe, was drinking 35-40 oz of formula a day before he started solids. Some babes find that the slow flow is so so so slow that they give up and will stop drinking so much. I think what works for each babe is very different. I say Playtex bottles with formed disposables all the way. Used them with both of my babes; they did great. You can get excess air out and never have to sterilize, just put the bottle (open top and bottom) in top rack of dishwasher - easy. And. . . most importantly, get some top rack dishwasher "cages," holds nipples on top and rings on bottom.

Avent all the way. We tried Dr. Brown's and Vent Air but preferred Avent (good thing, as I had dozens, ha) because they had fewer parts. We liked the many sizes of nipples, using a 0 (a little harder to find) for the first few weeks with our tiny baby and then have moved up to a size 1 nipple. susan

I think I am going to need the size 0 for Annabella...
We use the bigger playtex natural latch system with B and he still uses those, Sami is on the same one and LA is on avent size 2! LOL God Bless, Summer
