Unhappy OT: Saddest Movie Ideas for Troubled Teen

Hi there,

I work with emotionally disturbed and violent kids in a treatment home. One of our teens has difficulty expressing saddness so her therapist suggested getting her to watch some sad movies. So my question is:
What is the saddest movie you have ever seen??

My ideas were:
What Dreams May Come
Old Yeller (not sure she'd be interested in that one)
Thanx
April

What about Good Will Hunting? It's not the saddest movie but it is about a troubled young man who has difficulty expressing his feelings and after working with his therapist has a breakthrough at the end. (that's the sad part) Instead of making the kid very sad this movie might show them that it's ok to express their feelings.
Good luck to you!

Beaches
Stepmom
Steel Magnolias
Old Yeller
Philidelphia

There was this movie I saw last year, It was about three sisters. One died and left her kids to the young irresponsible sister. The older non fun responsible sister was upset that the kids were not left to her. I forget the name, but it was sooooooo sad.

Wow Looking back at everyone's list I remeber so many of those movies and many are my favorites.

I would like to stand corrected:

91/2 weeks is apparently about sex..... and only "sad" as it's a badly made movie.

The "sad" movie I was thinking about is Six weeks, about a little girl dying of leukemia.

Ooopps!

I would be looking for non-threatening tear-jerkers, not necessarily "sad" movies. I think that if she knows it's supposed to make her cry, she is likely to keep her walls tightly built. I would be shooting for movies which build emotions up throughout them. Movies which cause the viewer to become emotionally invested in the characters and outcome without being overtly "sad."

A few that come to mind -

Dragonheart (Sean Connery plays a noble dragon)
The Man In The Iron Mask
What Dreams May Come
The American President (Hard not to cry when Andrew Shepard - Michael Douglas - gives his "My name is Andrew Shepard and I AM the President" speech)
At First Sight (Very cool old Val Kilmer movie)
Love Actually
Mr. Holland's Opus
Phenomenon
Pay It Forward
