Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if I should post this question somewhere else - there is no forum for North Carolina on the state adoption board.

Does anyone know if there is a 6-month residency (or any other time period) requirement for adopting in NC? I read that somewhere a while back, I think it might have been in the "Adoption for Dummies" book.

Recently I have read the adoption laws for NC and I don't see this listed as a separate requirement anywhere...only that EITHER the aparents have lived in NC for 6 months OR the baby was born and has continuously lived in NC since birth.

I am wondering because we might be relocating to NC - I want to know if I'm going to have to wait 6 months to start the process for adopting our second child.

Paul was born in GA so we had to wait till he was 6 months old to file for adoption. Elijah was born in NC so we didn't have to wait.( His adoption was final before he was 6 months old)
