Inspired by Maxkinzie's Post

I fly across country with a 4 week old on January 6th.

I cant figure if I should ship my laptop home and risk it getting broken along with my digital camera (which is big) or should I pack both in my small suitcase with wheels and carry that onto the plane so it doesnt get broken via checked luggage...and carry the diaper bag with me.

I am going to ship all my clothes back since it wont fit in the small luggage.

I do have a snowglobe and ready to drink formula in the glass baby bottles to bring with me.

Help!

Congratulations AGAIN!!
Personally, I would not ship or check luggage with a laptop and camera. I think you'll want to carry those with you. I have a softside sachel I use for my laptop when traveling. Even though it is not very secure it is light. If you carry a larger bag you can fit the diaperbag in it too, and check your clothes?

Safe travels.

don't forget to pack a change of clothes for you and for baby in case of "accidents".

carry all electronic equipment with you. Shipping is possible. I'd ship the camera (insured to the lilt and overnight). the laptop is way too precious to trust, lol.

you're lucky. a 4 week old is easy to travel with imho, at least compared to the flights we did with dd at 12 months . had to pack entertainment too.

good luck!

Lisa

I traveled with my son alone at four weeks, with my lap top and camera. I had the camera in the diaper bag and my wallet etc in the lap top bag, you should be fine, I wouldn't trust shipping those items!

God Bless,
Summer

PS> where the baby if you can at the airport that will help free up your hands!

My digital camera wont fit in the bag...but technically babies pee and poop and the diaper bag will have less and less diapers in it and thus making more room for my large digital camera... l have a baby sling by New Native that he loves to sleep in, which will free up myhands to lug his car seat to be checked in.

I can always bring the small suitcase on the plane with the laptop and digital camera in it and carry the diaper bag and baby with me...snow globe in small suitcase

OR

I can check the small suitcase, carry baby, diaper bag, digital camera onto plane with snowglobe in diaper bag

Hmmmmmm

Ill let yall know what I did and how it turned out

I usually carry on a small suitcase and put my laptop in the front pocket. It sticks out but if you don't have to change planes it is no big deal. I have also stuck the laptop in the big diaper bad to carry on and brought only that and baby.

COngrats again!

I remember that when I traveled with dd as a young infant, it seemed overwhelming (all that gear and stuff). Check with your airline, but our airline said there was no limit to the size of the diaper bag, so we brought a big carry-on and used that as the "diaper bag".

The thought of glass bottles exploding scares me. I have the ready to drink formula thats in the glass bottle. You add the nipple and feed the baby.

Will those explode??

Hi Adrienne, We traveled by air a lot with our daughter (car too). I should be embarassed to tell you that for 12 months I used almost nothing but ready to use glass bottles (small and large) and pop top cans. Never once mixed a powder and rarely used the 32 oz can. They most definitely will not explode in cabin; if it were so, it would have happened to me. Wishing you a safe journey; travel is quite easy when they are such young babes, though there is so much to take along!

Thanks for letting me know and don't bge embarassed. Traveling light sounds like heaven! Im gonna see how much I can ship myself to my state so that I can be a light traveler too

I will use ready to drink formula until this baby is done with formula. No need for me to worry about gas from formula not mixed well enough.

Adrienne,

I too flew with the ready-to-use glass bottled formula and didn't have any issues with them. The one must have in my opinion to make juggling carry-ons and a baby easier is to invest in a sling so you have both hands free. Also shields the baby from so many hands wanting to touch them that you know are loaded with germs! LOL I also took my large diaper bag and it had so much room in it that I could get everything in it that I needed like the digital camera. I did take a laptop so had two "bags" to carry along also. A hassle, but I wouldn't trust shipping it either.

Good luck & try to pack light! LOL

Janet

A Semi-Update

I shipped 2 boxes full of stuff back to my state, insured. Im putting my camera in my small suitcase and laptop is in a laptop bag Ill carry with me and then put in the suitcase on the plane. Diaper bag will go into the suitcase. Baby will go into the sling that Ill be wearing and car seat will be checked in.

I'll let you know later if that worked out. I have a ton of babywipes because the closer we get to going home the more he poops and the more often he has diaper blowouts.

One particular blow out I had to strip him naked in the backseat and wipe him down with baby wipes and then quickly put on a clean outfit and put him back in his fleece buddle me in his car seat. phew!

Dirty diaper and wipes went into one plastic bag and dirty clothes went into another.
